ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY HOSTS CANCER AWARENESS WALK IN DILLON

The Alpha Delta Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, hosted a Cancer Awareness Walk on Saturday morning, October 10, at the City of Dillon Wellness Center.

The event brought the community together to raise cancer awareness, honor survivors, remember loved ones and support individuals and families affected by the disease.

Toni Graves, a breast cancer survivor, welcomed attendees and expressed appreciation for the community's participation, especially the youth. Pastor John Graves of The Word Church offered a prayer before Graves recognized cancer survivors.

City of Dillon Mayor Tally McColl emphasized that cancer affects everyone and highlighted the importance of regular checkups and community support.

Graves' husband, Matthew, and sister, Jennifer, shared remarks about the importance of supporting loved ones battling cancer.

Graves stressed the importance of regular mammograms and early detection.

The walk began with a survivors' lap honoring those who have faced cancer and celebrating their strength and perseverance.

Through the walk, the sorority continued its efforts to promote cancer awareness and encourage support for survivors, caregivers and families affected by the disease.

RUDY IS Dillon County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services PET OF THE WEEK

Meet Rudy, this week’s Dillon County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protective Services Pet of the Week. Rudy has come a long way since arriving at the shelter in July as a skinny, malnourished stray. Today, he is a happy, healthy dog who is ready to leave the shelter behind and find a loving family of his own.

Rudy is approximately 3 years old and has been vaccinated and neutered. He has a friendly personality and gets along well with both shelter staff and other dogs, making him a great candidate for a family looking for a loving companion.

As a hound, Rudy has all the qualities that make these dogs such wonderful family pets. He is loyal, affectionate and ready to become part of a family that will give him the love and attention he deserves. And, like many hounds, Rudy may occasionally “sing the songs of his people,” but his new family can expect those to be happy songs.

Potential adopters also have an added resource available. A shelter volunteer with experience as a dog trainer is willing to meet with the approved adopter of any Pet of the Week dog and offer guidance to help make the transition into a new home successful.

Rudy has already overcome a difficult start in life. Now, he just needs someone willing to give him the second chance he deserves and a place to call home.
