The Life I Didn’t Choose.

A brain injury can change the way everyday life works — routines, shopping, travel, relationships, grief, and even the simplest parts of the day.

Thriving Survivor is a new course and support community from Patti Wells Davis, created from the lessons, strategies, and encouragement she has developed through more than two decades of living after brain injury.

Patti understands this journey personally. Over the past 26 years, she has learned ways to make everyday life more manageable, work within her limitations, process loss, accept help, and continue moving forward with faith, purpose, and hope.

Now she is preparing to share what she has learned with other brain injury survivors and the people who walk beside them.

You may not have chosen this journey. But you don’t have to walk it alone.

When your subject is looking or moving in one direction, give them a little room to breathe.

Leaving more space in front of the subject than behind them usually creates a more natural, comfortable composition and gives the viewer’s eye somewhere to go.

Crowd the edge of the frame, and the shot can instantly feel cramped.

It’s a simple framing choice that can make a big difference.

Ever wonder why some shots feel more balanced than others?
A lot of it comes down to composition.

The Rule of Thirds is one of the easiest ways to improve your framing. Divide the frame into thirds, then place important elements near the intersection points of a 3x3 grid instead of automatically putting everything in the middle.

It’s a simple principle, but it can make your shots feel more natural and visually interesting.

Better composition. Better balance.

Before you change a camera setting, ask why.

Filmmaking gets clearer when you understand the reason behind each choice — shutter speed, white balance, exposure, lenses, and sound.

That is the heart of FilmmakerIQ: The Understanding Filmmaking System.

Practical Filmmaking Tip: Ask Why Before Changing Settings

Before changing a camera setting, pause and finish this sentence:
“I am changing ___ because I want ___?”

If you cannot answer it clearly, you may be turning a dial without solving the real problem.

Aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, lens choice — every adjustment should serve a purpose. A stronger image starts with a stronger reason.

Practical Filmmaking Tip: Gray Card vs White Card

White balance does not always have to come from something white.

A white card can work, but it may be too bright, slightly tinted, or affected by the color of the light around it.

A neutral gray card gives your camera a more reliable reference for both exposure and white balance.

The key word is neutral.

Small tool. Big improvement.
