It’s no surprise that online shopping has increased in the last two years, and that rise in demand is making retailers take a second look at their online purchase fulfillment strategies. Specifically, the "last-mile" fulfillment, just to compete with Amazon who has completely set the bar for consumers' delivery expectations.
For example, in the past year Walgreens and 7-Eleven have both partnered with Shipt, which is Target's same-day delivery service. Similarly, Walmart has expanded delivery options and is now utilizing local stores as Market Fulfillment Centers so they can complete orders quickly and win back market share from Amazon, without affecting regular store operations.
When it comes to online order fulfillment, speed is the key. But before an order even gets placed, it’s imperative that retailers optimize their shopping campaigns and streamline their user experience to avoid shopping cart abandonment, which reached a whopping 76% this time last year.
