Your logo has to introduce your business before you get a chance to say, “Let me explain.” And unfortunately, you can’t stand next to every business card, website, and work truck giving a presentation.
That’s why a good logo has a pretty important job: help people recognize you, remember you, and get a feel for your business at a glance. No pressure, little graphic.
So, what makes a logo work?
✨ Simple enough to recognize. Too many details can turn into visual clutter, especially when your masterpiece gets squeezed into a tiny profile picture.
🎯 Distinctive enough to remember. Following every design trend might help you fit in—but fitting in gets awkward when customers confuse you with three competitors.
📏 Versatile enough to go anywhere. Your logo should hold up on a billboard, a business card, an embroidered polo, and in plain black and white. Gradients don’t get to do all the heavy lifting.
The colors, typography, and shapes should also suit your business. A luxury spa and a demolition company probably shouldn’t make the same first impression.
And while a logo can’t replace great service, it gives customers something familiar to connect that great experience to. Use it consistently, and recognition can build with every interaction.
If your logo needs six fonts, twelve colors, and a backstory to make sense, it might be doing a little too much.
Give people something worth remembering. Preferably something they can still read on a pen.
