(COPIED) 6 days into 2025, we are reminded of our mission and what is in store for the New Year. Closing last night, a man called to say he found a dead dog in his driveway and asked what to do with its body. staff member, Anna, advised him to bring the dog in and we would check to see if it was chipped and try to locate an owner. Within 15 minutes, the dog arrived wrapped in a blanket. Our director, Ruth, took the lifeless dog and much to her shock, the dog let out a soft moan. She was alive...barely...but ALIVE!!!!!! She yelled for staff members Jeff, Briley and Becky (who were all just leaving for the evening). Dr. Zeigler was called; vitals taken; the plan was devised quickly and in full effect within minutes. This dog was LITERALLY FREEZING TO DEATH. She is COMPLETELY EMACIATED with ZERO body fat. Her temperature did not even register on the thermometer; heart rate was so faint you could barely hear it; and her gums and tongue were solid white. The idea of her surviving seemed daunting if not nearly impossible - but we couldn't NOT give this girl all we had to help her try to stay with us. Warm sub q fluids were administered; glucose under the tongue; paws wrapped; warmed towels; heated water bottles changed out every 15 minutes; but most importantly...she knew we loved her. Jeff even wrapped his entire body around her on the table while we prepared the supplies. Ruth vigorously rubber this pup's body and talked to her the whole time telling her how much we loved her and were going to fight for her. Briley and Becky followed Dr. Z's instructions and administered the medications. Within an hour her head stretched forward into the petting hands. Her front legs moved ever so slightly under the blankets - signs of life! Dr. Zeigler warned us the next 8-10 hours were crucial...we had done all we could and it would be a matter of time. Briley blew up the air mattress and asked to sleep next to her for the night. And THAT sums up what we do and who are. Please send your love, prayers, and good vibes to this girl. We will update early this afternoon. Either way...she knew/knows love...the kind that doesn't give up on you. 💚❤Only
