The Befriending Your Body (BFYB) website was designed to house Ann’s BFYB offerings, including the flagship Virtual Program, the Professional Training, Online Course, and more. Like her programs, the site is designed to make you feel welcome and safe, and to offer compassion and support. Self-Care for Female Entrepreneurs
As a business owner, especially those of us “soloprenuers”, burnout can come easily. We tend to wear so many hats on any given day to ensure we’re keeping up the momentum and things are running smoothly. It can be a challenge to pull ourselves away for self-care… Here are some tips for helping you get your mojo back, even if all you have are 5 minutes!

♡ Pause and take 5-10 deep breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth (maybe even incorporate a mantra or a simple “om” if you feel like it). This is a great way to ease feelings of stress and anxiety.
♡ Step outside for some fresh air and, if possible, spend some time in nature. A walk always helps me ground into the present…especially when I’m most resistant to it!

♡ Switch your focus to someone else, be it a pet, a partner, a friend, or a complete stranger. Sometimes a small act of kindness is all we need to remember the bigger picture.

♡ Meditate on one thing you’re grateful for. It doesn’t have to be something big… maybe it’s a person, a place, an event, or the simple act of giving yourself the opportunity to pause.

♡ Buy yourself a treat! Maybe an afternoon coffee, your favorite baked good, a cute new houseplant, a pair of shoes, whatever…whatever “sparks joy,” as Marie Kondo says.

♡ Take a nap. So often our bodies are signaling us to slowww down. Honor yours. Rest is not something that needs to be earned.

♡ Spend an hour doing something creative, be it through art, movement, music… get out of your head and let your intuition guide you.

♡ Take a long shower, a relaxing bath, or a dip in the nearest body of water. Water can be so cleansing!

♡ Journal. And give yourself permission to be messy and uncensored.

♡ Declutter your social media.

♡ Leave yourself love notes around your home or office… reminders and affirmations that empower and inspire you!

BRAND vs. BRANDING vs. BRAND IDENTITY
What’s the difference? Crazy, I know, but yes, they actually DO all have their own meaning!

→ A BRAND is the perception, or distinct ideas and feelings people have about your business; and what sets you apart from your competitors. Essentially, it’s what people think of you. Consider for example, Apple… how do you feel about them? Who do you think of as the ultimate Apple fan? And is this congruent with the message/image they portray about themselves?

→ BRANDING is the process of how you shape these perceptions; it’s all the steps you take to build awareness and craft your brand or reputation. There are SO many tools that we can use to do this… imagery, logos, fonts, content messaging, etc. One of the ways Apple does this is through storytelling, or by connecting with consumers on an emotional, intrinsic level… They market their “why”— that they think differently and aim to challenge the status quo — before even mentioning their products.

→ BRAND IDENTITY is the collection of visual and expressive elements (your logo, color palette, fonts, overall mood and voice, etc.) that represent your brand. The more cohesive and distinct these elements are, the more likely they are to be impactful in shaping a recognizable brand. Taking our example of Apple into account, you’d recognize their logo icon no matter what candy color it is. Likewise, think of what you’d expect walking into any Apple store and how that translates to their packaging, sleek product designs, and infamous user interface.

Melissa Golub | Web Design

I’m excited to announce the launch of two new websites! One of which is for psychotherapist, yogi, and BFYB certified professional, Melissa Golub. Melissa is one of those truly authentic individuals who walks the talk, with mindfulness and compassion at the forefront of each of her offerings. She practices from the perspective that everyone has the capacity to find peace, empowerment, and freedom within.

With a growing private practice for individual psychotherapy services and Befriending Your Body (BFYB)™® programs, she found herself in need of a warm, inviting website capable of taking online registrations. This site is geared toward adults who want resources and support in connecting with their intuition; who want to feel empowered in their decisions, and tap into what they really want, desire, love, and need.

In order to connect with their potential feelings of anxiety and/or depression, and desire to feel free, I wanted to emulate a sense of warmth, grounding, and compassion in the site’s overall aesthetic. This was accomplished through soft, earthy colors and textures; clean, spacious fonts; and comforting imagery. The copy is written to convey a sense of understanding; and the CTAs focus on inspiring empowered action.

3 Tips for Content Creation

1. Always be thinking about your ideal customer… How can you address their needs and inspire them into action?

2. Provide value… The more you can focus on building relationships with your potential customers, the more likely they are to trust you, buy from you, and refer you.

3. Have a clear goal… When writing copy, the question you want to be asking for every paragraph and sentence is, “Does this help convince my ideal client that I’m the right person to work with?”

Why Fonts Matter: Similarly to how a web design uses visual cues to attract your clients (something I discussed in a post last week) fonts are important in determining how your brand is perceived. For small businesses focused on building lasting customer relationships, making sure that your brand voice is communicated properly is essential.

For example, consider a fine dining restaurant… The menu might use a thinner, “lighter” font that conveys elegance and high-end vibes. It fits the $50 entrees and upscale atmosphere, offering customers a sense of quality and class—exactly what they are looking for, or else they would be at a different restaurant, like a Buffalo Wild Wings; whose font speaks entertainment, excitement, noise, and sports…all the reasons we love the famous wing shop.

Fonts tell your audience who you are without needing to physically speak it, and in doing so, help call the right people in—the ones who are looking for what you have to offer; who want to become clients/customers.

Mudita Being is a Holistic Nutrition & Wellness Coaching practice owned and operated by Lisa Davidson. Rooted in Chinese medicine and macrobiotics, Lisa’s mission is to share the healing and self-transformational qualities that these simple, ancient secrets can bring on many different levels.

Lisa initially came to me looking for help with a website. However, as a start-up in need of some branding, we began with a simple logo design. Then, we wove the elements of her brand into social media graphics and eventually the website itself!

The branding elements represent the depth of the ancient art of healing that Mudita Being is rooted in, while the minimalism of the design itself gives a nod to the fresh, modern era. Together, these elements — rich colors and photos, simple geometric shapes, soft and modern typography — tell a story of how ancient wisdom can be mixed with modern science to holistically meet the needs of our lives today.

The website was built with the goal of promoting Lisa’s coaching services and providing value through recipes and blog articles. The site aims to give clients a framework of what these services entail with several opt-ins to stay connected.

What is web design and why should you care?

Web design is often thought of as simply picking the right font color, where photos should go, and how buttons look. And while this isn’t wrong, it only scratches the surface of what makes an effective website.

Consider for a moment your favorite physical storefront. What is it about it that resonates with you? It’s likely more than just the product; it’s how the store is laid out, the decor, the lighting, how the staff present themselves, etc. Take for example Patagonia. They put a lot of care into the feeling and impression their stores create. Each physical store is built with recycled materials to convey their dedication to sustainability. Their walls are decorated with rustic, adventure photos that speak to the clientele. These little details matter; they are strategic.

A website is the same way. It should make your clients feel at home. It should be user-friendly and easy to navigate from homepage to service/product to conversion. It should provide value to your customers and clearly communicate their needs. Web design dictates how customers operate your website, as well as the feeling they get from each page — both of which are integral in inspiring whatever action it is you’d like visitors to take. And being that a website is capable of generating more customer traffic than an actual storefront, why not take the time to make sure it’s working *for* you?

I am a wife, an adventurer, a yoga teacher, reiki practitioner, and female entrepreneur. Based in Durango, Colorado but working (truly) globally, I specialize in web design and branding for small business entrepreneurs in the yoga and wellness community. Welcome to my page! I am grateful and often overwhelmed with appreciation by the community and support I have built around my business from the past 15+ years of branding and web designing. As much as I have to offer my clients, I feel I gain as much if not more from the creative, empathic entrepreneurs, health and wellness practitioners, yoga studios, ski resorts and non-profit organizations I work with. My plan with this page is to start sharing my collection of tips, tricks, and knowledge to other business owners. Sharing what I know and have learned over the past 15 years to successfully get your business out to the people that matter to you. From inspirational stories of female entrepreneurs, to the large-scale branding methods of ski-resorts, and spreading the word of some amazing companies I work with and what they’re doing, there’s so much I am excited to share with my community.
