I loved working with on documenting the energy of his new musical work. A jazz pianist, Eric's come a long way through self-exploration experiments. We talked a lot about paradoxical concepts and how to bring them into images: hiding but showing, inviting but remaining mysterious, softness with edge. I wanted to lightly challenge the traditional head-and-shoulders portrait while keeping some of the classic focus It's amazing working with other introspective artists--during our process (my photography style is intentionally very involved and personal, if the client will let me!), he made a visual mood board, a vibes playlist, wrote journal entries. We also rented the studio at to have a flexible blank slate to build on (highly recommend their space!). Here are just a few of the images we collaborated on--many more to share in the future!

Gonna have this embroidery/collage piece called “Life Now” in the .art Dollyweird 2 art show this weekend! This one was a fun way to re-use paper goods that have been thoughtfully dusting my craft drawers for years, and an opportunity to test out some creative stitching to highlight the ladies in the fabric (notice how the thread works to emphasize our leading lady?). ✨✨✨ Feat. process pics of a gender-bending Shakespearean actor piece I’ve been picking on for a while now (looots of design experiments in that one). 🌸🌸🌸 Many thanks to the organizers for putting on this fun n funky show. Did a little for-fun shoot with and I loooove how these turned out. Been dying to play more with shadow and darkness and soft light, and Cam’s look and personality added so much to the vibe and visual interest.
It’s wild that I’ve barely made time for shoots just for the delight of it in my adult camera life, but I’ve done two in the last few months so I think the creative exploration tides are turning. Feels good to make for making’s sake! Especially when the creative collaborative energy is as good as it was for this shoot! Here’s to more exploring 📸🌸✨

Chef Troy Dye looked so dang cool in his shades at a Portrait Party I couldn't help but feature him. Look at the James Bond focus in those eyes!!! Look at how he interacts with the sun, retreats a bit, then comes out full force!! Beautiful. Anywho, Chef Troye is an amazing personal chef and very cool guy, he won a Food Network episode of Cooks vs. Cons, and is always cooking up something interesting! Here are some sweet shots from a Portrait Party at a few months back. Looking back through these makes my face hurt a bit from smiling. Since moving to Durham a few years ago, I've met some of the kindest, warmest, smartest people I've encountered. Grateful for old friends back home and new friends in my new home. Love this community, far and wide!
