Byrum & Fisk is excited to work with the Democracy Defense Foundation to help keep elections in Michigan safe, secure and accurate. This week, we'll be at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan to continue the work of raising awareness about strong and effective elections safeguards in Michigan. At MSU, we'll unveil results of a new poll on Michigan voters' attitudes toward elections and democracy on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 11:30 a.m. at the Hannah Administration Building. At U-M, we'll participate in a forum as part of Democracy Week in collaboration with the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 11:45 a.m. at Weill Hall.

Partner Mark Fisk had the opportunity this week to talk about the real-life impacts of the escalating trade war with Canada as part of our work with the Michigan Smart Trade Alliance. In an interview with WDET 101.9FM, he summed it up this way:

"The tariffs are having a huge increase on not just school supplies but clothing, soccer balls and all kinds of ordinary items that families need as they go back to school. And that is bad news for families, bad news for retailers, and bad news for businesses."

Our firm is proud to be part of the bipartisan group working together to encourage a NO vote on Proposal 1 on the ballot in November, which will ask Michiganders whether to support calling a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con). As part of this work, firm partner and co-founder Mark Fisk had an opportunity to appear on the podcast “A Republic … If You Can Keep It” with fellow Protect MI Constitution from Special Interests campaign leader John Sellek to talk about the risks of opening up the state’s constitution for a total rewrite and the chaos it would create. ✂️ Exciting event this week for our client Holt Public Schools as district leaders welcomed the community to the new Sycamore Elementary School. It was wonderful to showcase the new facility that became reality in part because of the community's support of the district's 2024 bond, which we helped provide information.

Congratulations to our client, Wayne County Transit for All, for a successful campaign to renew and expand public transit in Wayne County, Michigan! We are proud to share that two of our clients, Wayne County Transit for All and Flint Cultural Center, won approvals for their millages on Tuesday’s ballot! Our team worked hard with these incredible organizations to renew and expand public transportation in Wayne County, and help children and students access art, history and science experiences in Genesee County.

The proposal in Genesee County garnered 68% of the vote, and in Wayne County, the public transportation millage garnered more than 67% of the vote. Our years of campaign experience and targeted, research-backed strategies helped bring home wins for these clients!
