A few years ago, I considered switching to digital gifts for my website and brand design clients.

Buying, packaging, and mailing physical gifts for every client takes time. I thought digital would be SO much easier.

Then I actually received a digital gift from someone I hired. It was thoughtful, and I had a great experience working with her, but the experience of a digital gift fell flat. There's just something MAGICAL about getting a card or package in the mail. That moment when you open your mailbox and it's not all bills and junk, there's an actual card or package with your name on it. We can try but that feeling just can't be replicated digitally.

So now when I'm packaging up client gifts, I don't think about the time it takes. I think about my client opening their mailbox and smiling. That moment when they realize someone took the time to send them something real.

One of the best parts of being a business owner is getting to be intentional about the things that we do. We get to choose what matters, get to decide where our time goes. And sometimes the thing that takes a little longer is exactly what makes the experience just that much more meaningful.

I eat at least one lemon every single day. I slice them and bite right into them like an orange.

And here's what I've noticed: where you get them matters.

🍋 Costco lemons? Convenient and affordable, but lacking the punch I'm after.

🍋 Co-op lemons? Incredible. Tart, bright, exactly what I want.

🍋 Regular grocery store lemons? Somewhere in between.

The softwares that run your business work the exact same way.

There are platforms that bundle everything together in one place: website, email marketing, courses, all of it. Convenient? Absolutely. But when a platform tries to do everything, it rarely does everything well.

Some features are great. Others are the Costco lemon.
