More than a decade of running Spark has changed my mind about a few things.

I used to think being successful meant saying yes to every opportunity.

Now I think it's knowing which opportunities deserve a yes.

I used to think growth always meant more.

More clients. More work. More hours. More goals.

Now I'm much more interested in building something sustainable.

I still have big goals for Spark. I still get excited about what's next.

But I also know what I want my business to make room for.

My family. My health. My creativity. My life outside of a laptop.

Turns out, knowing what you don't want can be just as valuable as knowing what you do. 🀍

"I don't want to post too much and annoy people."

I've heard some version of this more times than I can count.

Here's the thing:
Most people aren't seeing every post you make.

And the people who are paying attention? They're getting to know you.

They're learning what you do.
They're seeing what you know.
They're remembering your name.

Then one day, when they need exactly what you offer, you're already familiar.

That's one of the reasons consistency matters so much.

You don't need to shout louder. You just need to keep showing up. ✨

You don't need 100 new ideas every month. Actually, please don't make that your goal. πŸ˜‚

One good idea can become:
A social media post.
A blog.
A newsletter topic.
A short video.
A FAQ on your website.
Another post three months from now.

One of the biggest parts of content strategy isn't constantly coming up with something new. It's recognizing what's worth saying again, and finding a new way to say it.

Your audience isn't keeping a spreadsheet of everything you've ever posted. I promise. πŸ˜‰

September always feels a little bit like a second January to me.

Summer winds down. Routines come back. The calendar starts filling up again.

And while everyone is talking about what they're going to add this fall, here's my question:
What could you take off your plate?

Maybe it's the thing that's been sitting on your to-do list every week.
The blog you keep meaning to write.
The newsletter that's two months overdue.
The social media posts you're creating at 9 PM because you suddenly remembered you haven't posted all week.

You don't have to do every part of your business yourself.

Sometimes growth looks less like adding another thing... and more like finally handing something off.

One of the best compliments a client can give me is:

"That sounds exactly like me."

Because that's the goal.

Good marketing shouldn't sound like everyone else.

It should sound like you.

The right people aren't looking for perfect.

They're looking for real.

It's really easy to compare your beginning to someone else's middle.

I've done it.

But every business you admire started somewhere.

Usually with imperfect photos, awkward captions, and a whole lot of figuring things out.

(Seriously, go ahead and scroll back a few years on my profile πŸ™ˆ Or don't...)

Don't let someone else's chapter ten keep you from writing chapter one.

People see the finished post.

They don't always see the notebook full of ideas...
The coffee that's gone cold.
The revisions.
The photos.
The strategy.

Good marketing usually looks effortless.

That's because someone put a lot of thought into it.

10 years. 🀍 Ten years of marriage, two little girls, a home we've made our own, businesses and careers we've grown, and a whole lot of life in between.

I've spent more than a decade building a business I'm incredibly proud of. But the goal was never to build my life around my business.

It was to build a business that fits into the life I want to live.

A life where I can be there for the ordinary Tuesday afternoons and the big moments. Where we can make memories with our girls, like packing them up and heading to Maine together to celebrate ten years of us.

This trip was such a good reminder of why I've chosen to build Spark the way I have.

Growth matters to me. I'm ambitious. I love what I do and genuinely want to keep building something great.

But I also want slow mornings, family dinners, trips together, summers with my girls, and a life that feels really full outside of work.

I don't think we have to choose between building something we're proud of and being present for the life we're building along the way.

For me, that's the dream. 🀍

Happy 10 years to us. And here's to whatever the next 10 bring. πŸ₯‚

One thing I've noticed after managing social media for businesses for years...

The businesses people trust most aren't necessarily the loudest.

They're the ones who consistently show up.

I don't post every single day.

And I don't tell my clients they have to either.

Consistency matters.

Burnout doesn't help anyone.

I'd rather help someone create thoughtful content twice a week than rushed content every day.
