🚨 NEW WORLD SCREWWORM UPDATE 🚨

I've had several people ask me about the New World screwworm situation, so I wanted to address it.

First and foremost, this is an animal health issue, not a meat quality issue.

The New World screwworm is a parasite that lays eggs in open wounds on livestock and wildlife. The larvae can cause serious damage to the animal if left untreated, which is why animal health officials take it very seriously.

What I want people to understand is that this is not a food safety issue. Animals entering the food supply go through inspection processes, and the concern here is protecting the health and welfare of our livestock, wildlife, and ranching industry.

The cattle industry, veterinarians, state animal health officials, and federal agencies have dealt with animal health challenges before, and they'll continue working together to monitor and control this situation.

As ranchers, the biggest thing we can do is keep an eye on our cattle, check wounds closely, and report anything unusual to our veterinarian or animal health officials.

Stay informed, stay alert, and don't panic. Good livestock management and early detection are always our best tools.

🔥 FALL CALVING ANGUS COWS 🔥

▫️ Big-bodied Angus cows
▫️ Bred to Black Angus bulls
▫️ Fall calving — September through mid-November
▫️ Gentle, practical ranch cows
▫️ Uniform set of productive females

THE GOOD STUFF:

These are the kind of cows I enjoy finding.

They're productive Angus females with the body, disposition, and maternal ability to fit a variety of programs. Whether your goal is raising quality feeder calves, developing replacement females, or building a set of recipient cows, these ladies offer a lot of flexibility.

One thing I especially like is the number of breeding options available. A Simmental or Charolais bull could add growth and performance. A Brangus, Beefmaster, Brahman, Hereford, or Angus bull could take them in a different direction and help build a strong cow herd for years to come.

On a personal note, I've always been a big fan of a Maine-Anjou bull on Angus cows like these. I've also always liked the Braunvieh-Angus cross. Those matings have a reputation for adding growth, muscle, maternal value, and longevity.

If you're looking for recipient cows, these deserve a look as well. Calve them out this fall and put them to work in your embryo program.

As you can probably tell, I really like these cattle.

I see a lot of opportunities in these girls and a lot of different directions a person could take them. That's what makes good cows valuable.

If you purchase these cattle, I'd be glad to visit with you about bull selection or help you think through an AI breeding plan. Matching the right genetics to your goals can make a big difference, and I'd be happy to share what's worked well for me and my customers over the years.

80 PUREBRED BEEFMASTER COWS

▫️ 80 Head
▫️ Purebred Beefmaster Cows
▫️ 9–10 Years Old
▫️ BRED 6–8 Months
▫️ Palpated in April
▫️ Vaccinated with Vira Shield 6
▫️ Vaccinated with VL5
▫️ Vaccinated with Cavalry 9
▫️ Wormed with Ivomec Plus
▫️ Will Be Re-Palpated and Mouth Checked Prior to Delivery
▫️ Gulf Coast Raised
▫️ Around 1,300+ Pounds

THE GOOD STUFF:

I don’t often get the opportunity to market a set of purebred Beefmaster cows like these, but I sure like this kind.

These cows have spent their lives on the Texas Gulf Coast, just a few miles from the bay, in some of the toughest conditions you’ll find—heat, humidity, marsh ground, and mosquitoes. Yet they’ve continued to stay productive and maintain excellent condition.

The rancher’s philosophy is simple: every year the cows are palpated, and if one comes up open, she goes to town. That’s why these 9 and 10-year-old cows have made it this far. They have proven themselves by raising a calf year after year.

These cows were palpated in April and are carrying calves 6 to 8 months along. They’ve been on a solid health program and were vaccinated with Vira Shield 6, VL5, and Cavalry 9, then wormed with Ivomec Plus. They will also be re-palpated and mouth checked before delivery.

The ranch calves during the summer when the grass is at its best. Historically, these cows wean a stout set of calves in the spring, with many of those calves weighing 650–750 pounds.

If you’re looking for proven, productive Beefmaster cows that know how to work for a living, these girls deserve a serious look.

🔥 60 BRAHMAN HEIFERS 🔥

HEAD COUNT: 60 Head
TYPE: Exposed Heifers
BREED: Brahman Heifers
AGE: 18–20 Months
STATUS: Exposed to a Horned Hereford Bull for the Past 4 Months
LOCATION: Madill, Oklahoma

⸻

THE GOOD STUFF:

This offering consists of 60 Brahman heifers. There are approximately 7–8 smaller heifers and a couple of crossbred females in the group, so I believe there are about 50–52 head of the number one Brahman heifers that most buyers will focus on.

These girls are super gentle and easy to handle. They have the kind of disposition that makes ranching enjoyable and are definitely the front-pasture kind.

They have been exposed to a horned Hereford bull for the past four months. I really like the Hereford-on-Brahman cross. The calves should have plenty of growth, hybrid vigor, and market appeal, while the heifer calves can develop into productive replacement females.

One of the biggest advantages of Brahman-influenced cattle is longevity. These females are built to stay in production. With proper management, I would expect many of these heifers to remain productive for 15 years or more. When you spread your development cost over that many calves, it can make a lot of sense from a ranching standpoint.

If you’re looking for hardy females that can handle heat, insects, tough conditions, and continue raising calves for many years, these girls deserve a serious look.

The heart of this offering is approximately 50–52 head of really nice Brahman heifers, with a few smaller heifers and a couple of crossbreds that could be sorted off if desired.

80 BRED BRANGUS & SUPER BLACK BALDY HEIFERS 🔥

▫️ 80 Head
▫️ Brangus & Super Black Baldy Heifers
▫️ Approximately 1,100 Pounds
▫️ Exposed to Jorgensen Angus Bulls Since December 15
▫️ Vet Checked When a Buyer Is Ready
▫️ Gentle Disposition
▫️ Front Pasture Kind

WHY I LIKE THEM:

People ask me all the time if I can find young females like these. The truth is, groups of this quality are hard to come by because people who own cattle like these usually don’t want to sell them.

These girls are fully grass-developed, carrying excellent condition, and have the look of females built for a long productive life. They are deep-bodied, easy-fleshing, and the kind that can fit a wide variety of commercial cattle operations.

The Brangus and Super Black Baldy influence gives these heifers a lot of value. They combine maternal ability, adaptability, and eye appeal into one package. The Super Black Baldies, in particular, are always a favorite of mine. Good leather, good depth of body, and the kind that seem to stay in production for a long time.

They’ve been exposed to proven Jorgensen Angus bulls since December 15. Jorgensen genetics are well known for combining calving ease, growth, maternal value, and practical functionality—traits that fit very well in commercial cattle programs.

The bigger point is this: these are not just bred heifers. These are the kind of females many ranchers try to build a program around. Young, productive cattle with their best years still ahead of them.

These girls are carrying the kind of breeding that can work for the commercial cattleman today and still leave you replacement-quality females for tomorrow.

If you’re looking for front-pasture quality females that can move your cow herd forward, these girls deserve a serious look.
