It's filled with mascots and El Paso's beloved athletes, singers, historical figures and landmarks.

Today, we say goodbye to a true El Paso legend, Jay J. Armes, who passed away at the age of 92. Known as one of the world's most renowned private investigators, JJ's determination and grit were unmatched, overcoming incredible odds after losing both hands at a young age. His life was a testament to resilience, innovation, and passion for justice. El Paso has lost an icon, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations. Rest in peace, JJ. 💔

Segundo Barrio is well known for its murals and cultural character. In 2016, the area was placed on the Most Endangered Places in Texas list compiled by Preservation Texas.

Quinto Sol – The Rebirth

Quinto Sol is dedicated to all the present, past and future People of Segundo Barrio. This Mural is made to bring Pride, Hope and much needed “Ganas” during these times of change. It was created to inspire our children to make a difference and create unique art pieces.

Symbolism in our Mural

Facial Color- Light brown tones to highlight the skin tone of our people.
Ear Spools- Male/Female – A child’s sign of progression within the community.
Tongue- These piercings and tattoos honored their elderly and their family.
Jade Feathers- Teal color feathers represented the Quetzal, which is native to Mexico and also represents that the Barrio will always be the foundation where ones wings will start to form.

"La Estrella" The Mountain Star sits at an angle of 30 degrees and appears to be “perfect” at its focal point at the intersection of Texas and Alameda Avenues. The poles are staggered up and down the mountain for the distance of 459 feet; starting at the mountain top, and run down to a point about 200 feet above Scenic Drive. From its lofty height, the Star may be seen from the east for 100 miles from the air and some 30 miles from the ground. Pilots are known to use the Star as an orientation point.
