Use a scrim or diffuser to make your photos pop. Restaurant food photographers — you can set yourselves apart with this little trick.

A scrim is a piece of translucent fabric, usually held together on some sort of frame, that difuses the light hitting your subject.

The one below was around $20 and even comes with with a zip-on reflector.

The scrim softens and even eliminates the shadows depending on the proximity to the subject.

Notice the 3 extra elements in photo 1? They are hard shadows that take away from the subject. The harsh shadow in the background, directly behind the mug, and the shadow in the mug add elements that take away focus on the mug.

The closer you place the scrim to the subject the softer the shadow.

These photos were taken with and iPhone 7plus using the 2x and not touched in post. Imagine what you can do!!!
