Throwback Thursday - Atlantis Resort Pool + Beach Signage

This one takes us back.

Years ago, we partnered on the pool and beach environments at Atlantis... delivering signage that had to do more than just inform. It had to fit the experience, handle the elements and stay consistent across a massive property.

From safety and regulatory signage to guest-facing information throughout the water features and beachfront...every piece was designed to perform in a high-traffic, high-exposure environment.

Looking back, what stands out is the balance...clear communication, cohesive design and materials built to withstand sun, salt and constant use.

Today, we pause.

Not for a sale…not for a project…not for what’s next…but for those who gave everything so the rest of us could keep going.

Memorial Day isn’t about a long weekend…it’s about remembrance. It’s about honoring the courage, sacrifice and commitment of the men and women who never made it home.

At Boyd, we’re grateful for the freedom to build, create and do what we do every day…because of them.

We remember. We honor. We don’t forget.

Now taking shape in Steamboat Springs, Colorado…

The Stockman Sales Center signage is up, and it’s already making a strong first impression. Clean, dimensional lettering paired with a crisp install gives this exterior identity a confident, elevated presence… exactly what you want when introducing a new destination.

Projects like this are all about ex*****on… precision placement, balanced spacing, and materials that hold up beautifully in an outdoor environment. It’s signage that does its job quietly but effectively… guiding, branding, and setting the tone from the moment you arrive.

Excited to see this one come together and to watch The Stockman continue to take shape.

Happy Bike to Work Day!

We couldn’t let this one roll by without sharing this piece.

Created for Greystar's property Parq on Speer Apartments - Denver, CO and designed by ArtHouse Design, this installation turns everyday bike parts into something a little unexpected… a full-scale work of art that celebrates movement, energy, and the ride itself.

From wheels to gears to all the small components in between, it’s a reminder that even the most functional pieces can come together to create something bigger.

Whether you rode in today or just appreciate the craft behind it… here’s to the details that keep things moving.

Material Monday: Digital Prints

Not every “material” starts as a sheet. Some start as a blank canvas.

Digital prints are where design meets ex*****on - full color graphics printed directly onto vinyl, then applied to a sign panel to bring the concept to life with precision and consistency.

And when it’s done right… it doesn’t look applied. It looks built in.

From bold branding moments to subtle textures and layered visuals, digital prints give you complete creative freedom without sacrificing performance.

Here’s where it delivers:
✔ Unlimited color and graphic flexibility
✔ Consistent brand reproduction across every sign
✔ Ability to mimic textures, patterns, gradients, and imagery
✔ Scalable for anything from a single plaque to a full property rollout

Think about what you’re seeing in these examples…woodgrain without carving, detailed maps, icons and storytelling elements integrated seamlessly into the sign. That’s the power of a digital print.

World Baking Day feels like the perfect excuse to share this one…

Back when Dan Boyd was in the shop, you never quite knew what might show up…fresh biscuits and gravy, homemade cookies or SPAM on the griddle. It wasn’t just food…it was a moment to slow down, connect and take care of the people around you.

In honor of World Baking Day, it felt like the right time to remember those simple traditions that brought everyone together… and the people who made them happen.

Because sometimes the best part of the day isn’t the work… it’s the pause in between.

As National Police Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize the men and women who serve and protect our communities every single day… along with the families who stand beside them through it all.

Their commitment, sacrifice, and courage deserve far more than one week of recognition, but we’re grateful for the opportunity to pause and say thank you.

These custom badge displays, created for the City of North Richland Hills, Texas and the Denver Sheriff Department, were built with that respect in mind. Crafted from a combination of MDF, SignFoam, acrylic, Rowmark, aluminum, and NovaPol photopolymer… each piece started through precision routing and laser work before being hand-tooled and hand-carved to bring out the depth, detail, and character worthy of the departments they represent.

Projects like these remind us that signage can be more than identification… it can tell a story, honor service, and reflect pride in the people behind the badge.

To all law enforcement officers and their families… thank you for your service, sacrifice, and dedication.

Throwback Thursday...back in our old shop...it looked a little different and a lot smaller.

These photos capture four of our guys early in their Boyd journey... long before today’s equipment, systems and growth.

Fast forward to now...29, 30, 31, 35 years later...they’re still here.

That kind of longevity says everything. It’s experience you can’t shortcut and commitment you can’t fake.

The tools may have changed...the space has grown...but the work ethic and craftsmanship? That’s been consistent from day one.

We are proud to have a team that sticks, builds and keeps raising the bar.

Material Monday: Aluminum

Some materials carry a project. Aluminum carries entire systems.

From raw plate to precision-finished components, aluminum is one of the most versatile materials in signage. It can be cut, formed, welded, routed, painted, anodized…then do it all over again across different applications in the same environment.

Raw, it brings an honest, industrial feel.
Polished, it elevates with a clean, refined edge.
Painted, it becomes whatever the brand needs it to be...bold, subtle or completely seamless.

But where aluminum really proves its value is performance.
✔ Lightweight without sacrificing strength
✔ Corrosion-resistant for interior and exterior use
✔ Ideal for fabrication—panels, enclosures, frames, and custom forms
✔ Consistent, repeatable, and built to last

It’s the backbone behind a lot of what works in signage...whether you see it or not.

Design flexibility. Fabrication efficiency. Long-term performance. That’s aluminum.

👉 Follow along each Monday as we break down the materials behind effective signage systems.

To the ones who built us before we ever built anything…Happy Mother’s Day.

Today is about the women who taught us how to show up, work hard, care deeply and keep going…even when it’s not easy. The ones who somehow balance strength and grace in a way the rest of us are still trying to figure out.

At Boyd, we know a lot of what we bring to the table every day…the pride in our work, the attention to detail, the commitment to doing things the right way…started long before we stepped into a shop.

So today, we celebrate the moms, grandmothers and mother figures who shaped us.

Thank you for everything you’ve built.

This May the 4th, we’re looking at the ultimate facility management nightmare:

The Entry Sequence at Jabba’s Palace.

In a galaxy far, far away, even a protocol droid fluent in over six million forms of communication can’t navigate a door without proper signage.

When R2-D2 and C-3PO approach that massive iron gate on Tatooine, they aren’t just facing a crime lord—they’re facing a total failure in wayfinding. C-3PO has to "look around for some kind of signaling device" before timidly knocking, eventually being interrogated by a "tattletale" gatekeeper droid that definitely isn't ADA-compliant.

Beware of Doors without Signs.

In the real world, an unmarked door isn't just an inconvenience; it’s a liability.

Whether you're running a warehouse or a corporate office, here is what Jabba got wrong (and how you can get it right):
• The "Black Cavity" Problem: When the palace door finally opens, the droids face an "endless black cavity". Per NFPA 101 and OSHA standards, all exit routes must be clearly marked and well-lit with a minimum of 5 foot-candles of illumination.
• The Missing "Not an Exit" Sign: OSHA 1910.37(b)(5) requires that any door that could be mistaken for an exit (like a massive, imposing gate) must be clearly labeled with its actual function—such as "Closet" or "Storage"—or marked "Not an Exit".
• Zero Accessibility: Jabba’s gatekeeper droid emerges from a random hatch, but ADA standards require tactile signs to be mounted at a consistent height (48”–60” above the floor) on the latch side of the door so everyone can find their way.

Don’t let your facility become a "wretched hive of scum and villainy" (or just a place where visitors get lost). Professional, code-compliant signage is the "Force" that binds your building together, ensuring safety, accessibility, and a great first impression.

Ready to audit your "palace" for compliance? We’re here to help you stay on the Light Side.

May the Fourth be with you! 💫
