Not all progress is big progress.

I’ll say that again for the people in the back.

Not. all. progress. is. big. progress.

Some days, the farthest you can push your business forward is simplifying an over-complicated process, or writing a brain dump to clear your head and organize your thoughts, or putting the money from one sale in your business bank account, or reading a business book.

Little progress is still progress!

Don’t let hustle culture or the nagging voice of self-doubt tell you otherwise.

Do something for your business today. ANYTHING. It’s enough, I promise.

Comment below and tell me one thing you did for your business today to help move it forward!

Let’s chat about that serve first, sell later mentality.

Your potential clients are looking to you to solve a specific problem for them through what you’re selling. In order to show your audience your worth, you’ll need a plan around what content you’re sharing.

Sharing educational/helpful info about your product or service is a MUST (and it should come first). No one is going to buy something if they don’t know how it will help them!

Your audience will also love to see some behind-the-scenes content. BTS and “About Me” content allows your potential clients to feel close to you and your process. It builds rapport and trust.

Finally, be sure to tell your audience what products/services you’re selling. Don’t overdo this (no one likes to be sold to constantly), but your audience needs to know enough about what you’re offering to get excited about purchasing!

Do you have a plan around the content you share? If not, and you’d like some help, I’d be happy to discuss this with you and help you plan your content. Click the link in my bio to schedule a free discovery call!

Raise your hand if you’ve ever agreed to work you don’t love because you needed the money or you didn’t want to risk losing a client? 🙋‍♀️

Think back to the day you first had the idea to start your business.

Do you remember what that was like? Can you feel the butterflies in your stomach, the racing heartbeat in your chest, and the words tumbling out of your mouth as you excitedly told those close to you?

Most of us start businesses because we have an idea that sparks something in our hearts. Whether we “just know” it’ll be a million dollar idea or we can envision it making a deep impact on our local communities, businesses are (more often than not) born of passion.

If you’ve found yourself accepting work you don’t love, it might be time to look at your messaging and get even clearer on the work you DO love.

Narrowing your focus through your messaging will help your dream clients find you. And, bonus, if you narrow your focus to the work you truly LOVE, you’ll do your best work with confidence, minimizing the impacts of that pesky imposter syndrome.

Let’s get inspired! What’s one thing you truly LOVE doing in your business? For me, it’s helping my clients connect authentically with their dream clients and find success through their messaging.

Did you know an email subject line that’s too long or too short could cost you potential clients?

Studies have shown that a subject line between 6-11 words long is the ideal length if you want to encourage opens, which is the first step in making sales from your email marketing and retaining subscribers.

Subject line best practices also include:

✨Skip the puns—be descriptive and clear with what the email contains

✨Keep it short, but not too short

✨Emojis are fun, but use them sparingly and don’t replace words with them (it’s not inclusive for those with visual impairments)

✨Don’t put every word in CAPS—it could feel aggressive or desperate from your reader’s perspective

✨Understand your audience—know who you’re writing to and customize your email content (including subject line) to your audience

Did any of these surprise you? If so, which one? Drop it in the comments so we can discuss!

Social media is a very curated place. It’s hard to know what’s genuine and what’s not.

True—you have amazing services to offer and you really CAN help your ideal clients solve a problem in their lives, but how are they to know who on this app is genuine and who is just trying to take their money?

That’s on YOU. You need to show your ideal clients just how much you can help them. Here’s how:

•Serve first, sell later. Don’t dive into a sales pitch if you haven’t offered anything helpful to your potential client first.

•Speak from the heart. Offer up your genuine experiences and be honest and real with your audience.

•Offer helpful tips and educational content. You’re a wealth of knowledge—if someone is going to invest in you, they need to know you’re an expert in your field. (And this goes back to that first bullet point!)

•Create opportunities for genuine conversation. Figure out what your potential clients need help with and engage with them about it!

•Solve your clients’ problems. They came to you for help. Help them address issues they’re struggling with through some of that free education we discussed. The more you help your audience, the more likely you are to have a convert for life!

Building a genuine community around your brand will separate you from other businesses and set you up for more sustainable growth with long-term client loyalty.

Tell me in the comments—what’s one way you like to genuinely engage with your audience?

This is your reminder that you actually DON’T have to get everything done today.

One thing I’ve been working on for both my business and my personal life lately is taking big tasks and breaking them into manageable chunks.

I’ve found over the years that when a large project looms overhead, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the steps it would take to complete it.

Lately I’ve been practicing making lists that take a large project like “grow my email list” and break it into bite-sized pieces I can take on one at a time.

That list might include:

•Brainstorm freebie content ideas
•Pick a freebie idea and outline it
•Write the text for the freebie
•Do the graphic design for the freebie
•Create a landing page for prospective clients to sign up for the freebie
•Advertise the freebie on my social media accounts

When I see the task “grow email list” on my to-do list, I feel myself immediately shut down because it’s hard to know where to start. But when I make a list like the one above, it’s easy to see the steps I need to take to get to where I want to go.

Do you make lists like this? Does it help you take on big projects?

There’s no one-size-fits-all marketing plan.

Your business is unique. The marketing plan we build together should be unique, too.

My goal is to make sure your marketing reflects your vision for your business and speaks directly to the audience you hope to attract.

What would you do if you woke up tomorrow and Instagram and Facebook were gone?

The truth is, most of us rely on social media to build a community around our businesses, but at the end of the day, we don’t own our follower lists.

Email is a direct way to reach your clients, and with it, YOU control what content your clients see, not an algorithm.

Do you have an email list yet? Drop a 👍🏼 in the comments if you have an established plan for your email marketing!

How many times has fear kept you from stepping in the direction of something you really want?

Starting a business can be paralyzing, especially if entrepreneurship is brand new to you. 😳

When I started my first business (a soap and candle company), I had absolutely ZERO knowledge about how to run a successful business. In an attempt to arm myself with knowledge, I spent countless hours, days, and weeks researching different business tools and marketing tactics through Google searches alone. And at the end of the day, much of what I’d spent so long researching on my own ended up backfiring because I was pulling my information from a million different resources that weren’t necessarily vetted.

When I finally invested in my first business course through a company called I realized the importance of investing in quality, targeted education that directly relates to your business, and I’d wished I’d done it from day one!

That course gave me tools that I still use for my business to this day, even though I’ve since pivoted in my career from selling bath and body products to now helping small businesses hone their marketing.

When I started Petal & Pine, I immediately signed up for two separate business courses so that could hit the ground running and be confident in my goals and abilities. One course covered the ins and outs of freelancing. The other covered social media marketing.

If starting a business is on your heart, I highly recommend investing in quality educational resources up front—whether that be a course, mentor, coach, or group program. When you start your business from a solid foundation, I think you’ll find it a lot easier to step confidently into your purpose. 💪🏼

Have you ever thought about the path your potential clients walk before they actually purchase from you? 🤔

This path is called a Sales Funnel.

Here’s how a Sales Funnel works:

Awareness - A potential client first becomes aware of your brand, products/services, or offers. This typically happens through your online marketing, networking, or word-of-mouth.

Interest - The potential client starts paying attention to your marketing because you’ve caught their eye. Something you shared resonated with them, so maybe they start following you on social media or they download a freebie you created. This is your chance to serve your audience, build those meaningful relationships, and show them why they need what you have to offer!

Desire - You’ve really got their attention now. Maybe they’ve been receiving your newsletter for awhile and they’re considering making a purchase or signing a contract with you.

Action - Congratulations! This is the moment you’ve worked so hard for. You’ve finally turned a potential client into an actual paying client!💰All that’s left is to knock their socks off with how awesome you and your business are!

Sales Funnels are a great way to build meaningful, lasting client relationships by educating and serving your clients up front. No one likes to be sold to constantly or bombarded with marketing they’re not sure they can trust.

Sales Funnels keep you from making your sales pitch too soon and making potential clients feel like you’re just chasing their dollar. When in doubt, remember to serve first, sell later!

Do you have a set sales funnel for your audience? If not, what’s holding you back?

Hi, there! I’m Adele.

I realized that I’ve been so busy with my clients’ social media efforts, I’ve been a little remiss in sharing about myself here. 🙈 Let’s change that, shall we?

I live in beautiful Colorado with my husband, Great Dane, and rescue kitty. And although I was born in Wisconsin, I consider myself a Colorado native because I’ve lived here since I was 2!

On the weekends you’ll find me binge-watching TV with my little family, getting outside for a walk in the sunshine, or hanging out at a local brewery with my husband. (My favorite beer is anything but an IPA. 😉)

I started Petal & Pine Co. with the vision of helping small businesses to connect authentically with their dream clients through organic and strategic marketing, so that’s what I hope to be able to do for you!

Now, tell me about you! Drop your favorite drink (alcoholic or not) in the comments! Mine is a tie between coffee and beer!

Instagram Stories are a great way to engage with your audience in real time and even conduct market research in an interactive way!

I recommend keeping something in your stories at all times so you stay top-of-mind with your clients, so I’m sharing 4 ideas for things you can post today!

✨Behind the scenes: Share short video clips of your day to give your audience an idea of what you do, how you do it, struggles, and triumphs.

✨Ask me anything: Share a photo of yourself with the Question sticker on your stories and respond to each question on your stories so your audience can learn more about you.

✨This or that: A this or that game is a great way to conduct market research by learning your clients’ likes and dislikes!

✨Work in progress: Share something you’re working on. Talk about your process, the things you like and don’t like about the project, and how you plan to solve any problems with it!

These are just a few ideas to get you rolling. Do you find Stories useful when engaging with your clients?
