Three invisible lines every print job is built on

TRIM is where the blade cuts. BLEED is the 1/8" outside trim where your background extends, so any tiny shift in cutting doesn't leave a white edge. SAFE is the 1/8" inside trim where you keep anything important, so it doesn't get cropped off.

When a printer says "your file is missing bleed," this is what they mean. If you're designing your own files, every design tool has a "with bleed" document setting, turn it on at the start, save yourself the back-and-forth. If you send us art that doesn't have bleed, we'll extend it for you when the design allows, or send it back with a quick note if it doesn't.

Save this. You'll need it.

90% of "the color is wrong" complaints are this exact thing, and it's nobody's fault. Print and screens are different physics. The fix isn't arguing with your printer, it's designing for the medium. Save this for your next order.

You've heard "shipping is zone-based." But did you know the zone isn't calculated from your city it's calculated from your origin ZIP code? That one detail changes everything about what you're paying.

Here's how it works: carriers divide the country into zones 1–8 based on distance from your ship-from location. The further the package travels, the higher the zone, the higher the cost. A Zone 8 shipment from Los Angeles to New York and a Zone 4 shipment from Memphis to New York, same package, wildly different price tags.

This is exactly why big-volume shippers use something called zone-skipping: trucking pallets of packages closer to the destination before handing them off to the postal carrier. Suddenly that Zone 8 becomes a Zone 2 or 3, and the savings stack up fast.

Most small shops never learn to read a rate card β€” so they just... pay whatever the label prints. If you're doing any kind of volume, it's worth 10 minutes to pull up your carrier's zone chart and see where your customers actually live vs. where your zones are killing you.

We're here to help you ship smarter, not just ship. Drop your questions in the comments or send us a DM.

You've seen it on every paper listing: 80gsm vs 120gsm, 14pt vs 16pt, 60lb text vs 80lb cover. But nobody actually explains what you're buying.

Here's the thing: GSM measures mass per area, not thickness. Two papers at the exact same GSM can feel completely different depending on how the paper is made. And the US pound system? Even trickier: the "lb" number is based on a reference sheet size that changes depending on paper type. That's why 60lb text and 60lb cover are nothing alike.

We know it's confusing. That's why we do the translating for you. βœ‚οΈπŸ“¦

Which costs more to ship? A giant box of pillows (5 lbs), A small box with a dumbbell (20 lbs) Surprisingly, sometimes the pillows! Why?

Because shipping companies charge for the amount of room your package takes up in the truck, airplane, or delivery van. That's called Dimensional Weight.

Basically:
πŸ“ Big Box + Light Item = Higher Shipping Cost
Need help choosing the right box size? That's what we're here for!

The packaging industry has trained small shops to optimize the wrong number. Sticker price is the easy metric. Damage-adjusted cost is the real one, and almost nobody calculates it because it requires tracking returns honestly. We finally ran the numbers across six months of our own orders, and the gap was bigger than we expected. Save this for your next inventory order.
