Parkinson is a disease of the central nervous system that affects movement. This disease starts with tremors, shaking, then a slowing of the movements. Dragging and shuffling of the feet, making walking difficult. The muscles will stiffen, it impairs the posture and balance. Then the speech will become more difficult.
There are more than 200,000 cases per year diagnosed in the US.
Treatment helps to alleviate some of the symptoms and slows the progression, but there is no cure.
It has been 9 years since the passing of my father, James Fritz, and not a day goes by that I don't think of him. He was 78 years old. He was diagnosed in his early 40's but continued to care and provide for his family , 7 children and a wife. We lost valuable time with him as this disease robbed him of a normal life. I'm thankful for the time I had with him, we as a family took advantage of the "good" days. I learned patience and perseverance from him. He never once gave up, I admired his strength to continue to push thru the pain and debilitation of his disease.
This disease is a family affair, it takes everyone to care for the Parkinson's victim. The caregiver has to continue to live for them both. My parents where the strongest people I know to fight and work so hard for everyday. My mother passed away a year and half ago. They were a team and worked together with love and dedication to each other. They are truly missed!
Collectively we can continue to support medical research.
