Sending out an email may be convenient, but a lot of the time, you have no idea whether it was received by the person or got there at all. A fax machine doesn't transmit without a connection, which means that you have a receipt confirmation built in.

When you're comparing the price of a new copier, consider ancillary expenses, too. They can add up, making that inexpensive bargain costly to operate. Be sure to check the cost of toner as well as the cost of operating the unit.

When it comes to investing in a new fax machine, one thing you want to consider is the ongoing cost of toner or ink, which will determine the overall cost per copy. This will help you keep your overhead under control in the long term.

Copier toner is pretty sophisticated. Although it looks like dry ink, it's actually not. Care to guess what copier toner is made of? Although the "recipe" will vary somewhat from manufacturer to manufacturer, copier toner contains plastic polymers, pigments, and wax.

The idea of sending messages as quickly as possible over long distances has befuddled people for thousands of years. It is believed that drums were used for communication in ancient times – particularly during military conflicts - and that practice was perfected in Africa.

Today's color copiers are capable of an incredible amount of high resolution, but have you ever wondered why nobody uses it for counterfeiting? The truth is, each photocopier will print a tiny pattern of dots that help identify the copier to prevent counterfeiting.

A big breakthrough in fax technology came in 1903, when Arthur Korn created a photoelectric machine that used radio waves to send pictures long distance. He created a network between Berlin, London, and Paris in 1910, and the Associated Press used that technology to start the first photo wire service, sending their pictures to subscribing newspapers around the world.

One option when it comes to modern fax machines is the inkjet machine. These units work by creating a digital image on the fax paper using compatible inks. An inkjet machine is best if you don’t send and receive a high volume of faxes daily.

Do you routinely send the same fax to multiple recipients? Then you will want to look for a fax machine that features good support for broadcasting, which will enable you to scan the fax once, and then send it out to all the recipients you enter.

Would you be excited to purchase an electrophotography machine? That was the initial name of the photocopier created in 1939 and eventually sold to the public in 1959 by the Haloid Corporation. Officials there didn’t like the name and changed it to "xerograph" – which means “dry writing" in Latin. The copiers eventually became known as "xerox machines," and Haloid soon changed its company name to "Xerox."

There are few nearly perfect inventions. But that is close to the case with the photocopier. In the 75 years since the photocopier was invented by Chester Carlson and marketed by the company that would become Xerox, there have been no significant new versions – which is virtually unheard of in this technology age. Five years after the machine was marketed to the public, an estimated 9.5 billion copies were made worldwide. In 2012, that figure was estimated to be more than 3 trillion.

One convenient technology offered these days is the ability to send faxes from a computer. Network ready fax machines are able to connect to your router, so you can send faxes from any computer that’s on that network.
