Where were you? Leave your story below lest we forget.
We will never forget.
I remember so clearly sitting in my 7th grade classroom. My teacher, Mrs. Bellflower, at West Laurens Middle School, quickly turned on our classroom tv after receiving notice by the office for all teacher to turn on the tvs.
All of us 12-year-olds sat in complete silence. I think it’s best said, even at that age, we knew we were watching something horrific, life changing, and unimaginable. We watched in real time the second plane hit, the crashing of the 2 towers, the wreckage of the pentagon, the wreckage of the plane in a field, President Bush being notified and giving his speech that America is at war. We watched it all. And though I was still young, I can remember it all—how it smelled in the classroom, the silence of my friends, the shock in my stomach. We remember it all.
Now, my daughter is the same age as me when this happened and I do not shelter her from the coverage. I believe it to be important to not shelter the young Americans from it all as it is now said 1 in 3 Americans were you young or not yet born during 9/11.
So again, I ask you, where were you on September 11, 2001?
