Blessings in a Backpack SWFL recently raised $160,000 during its signature event, GET FED UP. The event proceeds will benefit elementary school children in the 5-county region who go hungry every weekend.

Today is a special day! We celebrate National Blessings in a Backpack Day and honor our impact on all the hungry children we have fed together.

In 2015, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Green Bay Mayor James Schmitt made history, designating the third Thursday of September as “Blessings in a Backpack Day” at the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Over 100 mayors have since joined, packing weekend food for kids in need. In 2018, we expanded to National Blessings in a Backpack Week, engaging volunteers, donors, and supporters on social media.

From June 5 to July 31, breakfast and lunch will be served at more than 100 school-based and community sites in Lee County.
