Hello! My name is Megan Bernatzki, and I’m an illustrator, graphic designer, and all-around creative enthusiast based in Eugene, Oregon. I graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science and a minor in biology, diversifying my undergraduate career with classes in fine arts and social sciences. I’ve been expressing myself through creative outlets for as lon
g as I can remember. During my childhood, my methods of interpreting the world around me involved colored pencils, markers, and paints, and my love for traditional mediums carried my artistic endeavors well into my late teen and young adult years. It wasn’t until my early 20s that I finally found a love for digital art, but upon discovering the endless ways one can use design software to create essentially anything you can imagine, I was hooked. Though mostly self-taught, I have also taken several classes through CGMA on dynamic sketching, anatomy, animal drawing, and more. In recent times, I’ve made the foray into graphic design. The process of logo design, editorial design, and branding, in particular, satisfies both my imaginative side as well as my logic-based and methodical one: I approach each project like a puzzle, fitting pieces together until they make a cohesive whole. While Adobe Photoshop remains one of my favorite and most familiar programs to use, I’ve also become proficient in Illustrator and InDesign as well. I’ve always been inspired by the natural world, especially animals, and that continues to be a source of inspiration for me to this day. I also love learning about mythologies from cultures around the world, particularly mythological creatures (including the regal qilin that inspired my business’s name), so any project that involves fantastical creatures is one that I would really enjoy! My other great passion is Asian culture, particularly Korean pop culture -- I’m consistently blown away by the visuals and storytelling seen in K-Pop music and music videos, particularly those released by the group ATEEZ. My dream is to work on their company’s creative team, so I’m working hard to continuously improve myself and my skills in the visual design field. I hope you enjoy looking through my projects, and I look forward to being a part of your own creative journey whether it be for personal or professional purposes. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
