While you may have thought our beginnings were rooted in paints and brushes, it all started with a single pen. ✒️ From the original Payzant dip pen in 1911 to fountain pens, rollerballs, mechanical pencils, and bottled inks today, fine writing tools continue to shape personal expression through line, pressure, texture, and color.

Granulating watercolors create a textured, grainy effect when certain pigments with larger particles or clusters settle into the low spots of the paper. This natural granulation is different from staining pigments, which grind into fine particles and produce smooth washes that sink more deeply into the paper. Granulating mediums can produce a similar clustered effect even with colors that would normally behave like smooth staining pigments.
