Hi, everybody! Josh here. I finally decided to take the leap and try freelancing work. Thanks for liking my page and showing support. Here's a little bit about myself and how I got here:
My experiences in media production began when I worked as a production assistant at the Long Beach Film Foundation as a teenager in Long Beach, California. My parents were filmmakers and their creative interests afforded me opportunities to work on film sets, often filling in whenever somebody needed an extra hand. Unsurprisingly, it felt natural to study media arts when I left for college. In college, my senior project was a feature length mock-umentary about life at Antioch College, which I wrote, directed, filmed and edited before I graduated with a BA in Media Arts.
After college, I worked as a photographer at a portrait studio, where I learned the ins and outs of portrait photography, and eventually managed the entire studio. I learned how to work with families and provided professional, quality pictures.
I then transitioned to working in local news, first as a production assistant, producer, photographer, and finally chief photographer. At 44News, I learned how to work under pressure at high-profile events across the tri-state, had the honor of meeting many local and state political leaders, and filmed award-winning stories. I acquired my drone pilot’s licence, and managed news production from nearly every position behind the camera.
While working at 44News, I realized that I wanted to take my education further and pursue a Master’s Degree. In the spring of 2020, I graduated from Southern Illinois University with an MS in Professional Media and Media Management, with a focus in digital documentary practice. Documentary film-making is a passion of mine, and one which I hope to make a bigger part of my life in the future.
Each of the experiences listed above prepared me to start my journey as a freelance photographer. I am confident in my ability to provide high-quality, innovative, creative work for my clients. Please reach out if you have any media production needs.
