Happy retirement, Jeff! We knew this day would come, and it sure is bittersweet. We will miss our favorite weatherman we grew up with. We heard his calm, reassuring voice on 14NEWS for decades and enjoyed his subtle humor, love of cats, and Fall Festival shenanigans. It won’t be the same, but we’re very happy for him.

Happy fall!!! We made it through the sweltering heat to the best time of the year. Bust out the sweaters, the cozy candles, the string lights, Halloween decorations, the warm drinks, the bonfires and the blankets! I’m so dang excited I made some color palettes to celebrate the beauty of the season. Let’s get cozy and spooky! 🍁

It’s National Sprout Day!! Different sprouts I guess, but I’ll take it as my Sprout anyway! I have to share that yesterday I sat outside my house reflecting and had a moment of deep gratitude for the following reasons:

• I had a meeting with a potential new client starting an ice cream shop with a theme of second chances for so many reasons - for them personally, their future employees, their community, and the building they’re about to restore. It was really beautiful.

• Scott and I went to Market on Main which is run by our friends who we both got to design and develop for Urban Seeds.

• The previous evening, we got to eat incredible melon-inspired food prepared by those same folks at Urban Seeds

• At the market, we were given glorious cubes cake by Tori, her sister, and their kids. I got a hug from her sweet daughter. VEATS

• We ran into my former intern Morgan who’s now kicking butt at her new marketing job at Explore Evansville

• Later, I had a meeting with the Reitz Home Museum , and we chatted about new design work and how we could support one another with spooky community events in October

• I worked on a wedding look book design for my flower shop client in her new space as her business continues to flourish. Jesse Meyer

• And more!

Small businesses and organizations in a small city are people and dreams and friends and caring and giving. And I get a front row seat to so much of it, and it really gives me purpose and life. I’m so grateful to continue to do what I do and the support I continue to get from all my dream clients. 💜

New brand reveal for Posey County !!

We’re so excited to share the new brand project that’s been in the works for the past several months for my home county! It’s the coziest corner of Indiana, and it has a lot to offer, including the uniquely quaint, artsy, historic New Harmony with charm and landmarks like no other in Southern Indiana, the many outdoor escapes like Harmonie State Park and Hovey Lake, and Mt. Vernon’s gorgeous, newly upgraded riverfront.

Posey County is a cozy, welcoming place to slow down, explore and feel at ease. The visual vibes we were after were Indiana Americana folk art, rustic, and rooted in small-town charm, expressing a sense of warmth, care, and intentional slowness. Most of the early settlers to the county were German, so we drew inspiration from Germanic folk art. We were drawing from analog, handmade traditions to evoke a lived-in quality. Overall, the vibe balances historic and artsy with outdoorsy and relaxed.

We had a lot of fun building out a full rebrand including a responsive logo suite, backgrounds and textures, a hand-drawn icon set, brand guide, and custom website.

Illustrative nuggets of Posey County in the logo:
• Germanic Folk Flora based on the settlers of the county
• The Posey County Courthouse
• The Roofless Church
• Geraniums
• The Say’s Firefly
• Mt. Vernon River Front steps
• Historic marker border shape

In the brand identifiers, we included the folk flora, the Say’s firefly, and 2 river waves, representing the Wabash and the Ohio, since Posey county is where those 2 rivers meet.

You can see all the elements come together in the newly launched Visit Posey County website. Check in out here!

My collaborators on this project were Scott Wambach and Sprout intern Morgan Howard

The Granted House of Hope is a 4.5 year old dream that became a reality before our eyes due to the hard work and imaginations of some amazing folks I’m proud to know.

If you aren’t familiar with Granted, they grant wishes for chronically/terminally ill children. They’re like Wish Upon a Star, but local, which gives them a better opportunity to know the children and families personally and make connections to local resources and people who can help.

This brand new purple house is a wonderland for children, with sensory rooms, play spaces, quiet spaces, a big playground, mini amphitheater, indoor castle, book nook, and more, and it’s located off of Oak Hill Road.

I got to hear about this project at the beginning and was commissioned to create a fundraising brochure for this campaign, and holy smokes, they raised a LOT of money in a short amount of time for this project. Susan Washburn (Granted Director) and Jeff Purdue are forces and just very special people who spearheaded this project.

Once the money was raised and the project broke ground, it was time to start thinking of how to honor all the folks who contributed to the project, and there were A TON of people to thank because so many people helped out in big ways. So we were then commissioned to create donor art and wall graphics! People who helped build the space are all over the building, inside and out.

I was happy to have Morgan along during her time at Sprout to assist with the signage as well! We had fun working on this together. And we’re proud to have had a small roll in such a massive, important project for the tristate.

Congratulations, Granted! We’re loving that hope has a home. 💜

I'm presenting again with some extremely talented friends! This is an EDG event next week about "rejected work". I often present multiple concepts in my work, so I'll be talking about concepts that didn't get chosen. Come see what some businesses could have looked like! It's like thinking about an alternative reality, so come escape with us!
