Some shoots have a way to remind me why I love filmmaking.
48 hours ago we wrapped a project for Farmer Focus with the team at Vokal.io (check em out), and I'm still riding the high. Not because of the gear, the location, or even the footage (though it's gorgeous), but because of the people who showed up to make it.
Filmmaking is a strange craft. You can write the thing, plan the thing, light it, frame it, storyboard it down to the second, but the best version of your vision only exists when the right humans surround it. The second a crew that actually cares walks onto your set, the whole project levels up.
That's the magic. That's the only way this works.
A great crew isn't a luxury. It IS the film.
So before this one gets buried under the next deadline, I have to say it out loud:
K, my producer. The calmest mind in the room and the reason this shoot ran like a clock. The meetings. The coms. The details. You rock hard.
Angelina, our food stylist, and her assistant Erikc. INSANE the amount of work you put into this. The food looked perfect!
Josh, my gaffer. So glad it worked out the way it did, man. Your light made the day. It was a pleasure to have you on set.
Jake, my assistant DP. Love the way you see light and your attention to detail.
Jordan, my 1st AC. The attention to detail you brought all day was next-level, you read my needs before I even asked, and that camera build was a thing of beauty.
Dory, our PA and BTS shooter. Every set needs someone like you, holding it all together with a camera in hand.
A.J., my key grip and right-hand man. There's no version of this shoot without you. Never has been.
Emily, Joanne and Ed at Vokal, you guys are the kind of agency partners every director dreams of. Trust, taste, zero ego. Let's keep going.
Jose, our chef actor, incredible work my friend. And an even more incredible guy.
Christina, my wife. You support me in ways I can't even explain, and then you showed up and absolutely crushed the acting on top of it. Love you, babe. Love doing life with you.
And finally, Abi and Georgia at Farmer Focus, YES!! We did it! Thank you for trusting us with your brand and executing your vision!
The set is just a room. The crew is the film.
I'm a lucky director.
Let's do it again. Soon.
