Practice What You Preach: Why I Ranked My Own Business First
One thing I've believed since day one is simple:
If you can't rank your own business, how can you expect to rank someone else's?
I've invested in courses, mentorships, software, and training over the years. I've learned from some great people. But eventually I realized something important:
The real test isn't what you know.
The real test is whether you can apply it.
Three years ago, I started building my Google Business Profile in Virginia. There was no secret shortcut. No magic software. No overnight success.
Just consistent work.
Reviews.
Photos.
Website updates.
Google Business Profile posts.
Customer engagement.
Showing up week after week, month after month, year after year.
Today, that profile still generates phone calls, even though I've relocated to Texas.
Not because I'm special.
Because consistency works.
Google rewards trust. Trust is built over time.
One of the biggest misconceptions in local SEO is that businesses can dominate an entire city overnight. That's rarely how it works.
Most successful local businesses start by becoming known for one thing.
One service.
One category.
One specialty.
Then they build authority from there.
For service businesses, Google is often your best salesperson.
It's working 24 hours a day.
It never takes a vacation.
It never calls in sick.
But it only works if you've invested the time to earn Google's trust.
