Is it enough to have a profile? Do you need to post? And if so, what exactly should you say?

The answer depends entirely on your career and business goals.

Here are the four stages of executive LinkedIn presence with tips for showing up in a way that’s effective and sustainable.

Most CEOs have a leadership narrative in their head. They know what matters to them and how they want to show up.

The challenge is that outside people only see pieces of it.

Random posts, sporadic updates, and big gaps in between create a fuzzy picture of who you are as a leader and what you prioritize.

You might feel like you are repeating yourself, but the outside world is often seeing something for the first or second time.

People build their impressions from patterns.

If you talk about something once, it feels important to you.

If you talk about it regularly, it becomes part of who you are in their minds.

A clear narrative does not require a complicated content plan. It just needs a handful of themes you care about and the willingness to return to them.

Over time, others start to describe you in the same way you would describe yourself.

That is when your leadership presence starts to feel intentional.

Headlines are once again filled with layoffs.

Even the most capable leaders are navigating uncertainty they can’t control. But one thing you can control is your visibility.

In times like these, your LinkedIn presence becomes a strategic asset that should be fully utilized.

You don't need a sophisticated campaign or content calendar. Just do these three simple things to help the right people see you at the right time.

Build a strong LinkedIn presence to stay top-of-mind with the people who can impact your next move. Visibility leads to opportunity.

Many CEOs stay away from LinkedIn because they do not want to say the wrong thing.

It feels safer to say nothing at all.

The problem is that silence is also a signal, and it is rarely the one you intend.

When people cannot find a current, human voice from you online, they assume you are disengaged, out of touch, or simply not that interested.

When people are googling you before a meeting, that lack of signal matters.
It influences whether people are excited to work for you, invest in you, or partner with you.

You do not need to post every day.

You do not need to share anything confidential or personal.

But a steady, visible presence that sounds like a real person goes a long way toward building trust.

Doing nothing feels safe. Increasingly, it is not.

“My LinkedIn profile is fine.”

That’s what most senior leaders say until:
• You realize the best candidates aren’t applying for your jobs
• A promising partner pulls back without explanation
• An investor who should be a great fit turns down a meeting

What happened?

What if they Googled you, checked your LinkedIn, and what they saw didn’t match the story you gave them?

As busy as you are, is there a disconnect you might have missed?

We tend to think of LinkedIn as a personal presence. But if you’re in hiring mode, it’s doing double duty.

Candidates don’t simply look at the job description. They scroll your profile, check the company page, and form an impression of who they could potentially be working for, long before the interview.

Whether you mean to or not, you’re already communicating what kind of leader you are and what kind of culture you’re building.

The good news? You don’t need a complete overhaul. A few smart updates can go a long way.

Here’s a simple formula to make your LinkedIn work harder when you’re hiring.

Use our LinkedIn hiring formula to attract top talent before you even post the job. A simple way to make LinkedIn work harder for recruitment.
