The real life Mayberry from the Andy Griffith Show...Mount Airy, North Carolina. This small town near the NC/VA state line is Andy Griffith’s hometown and the inspiration for the beloved TV show. You can visit the Andy Griffith Museum, take a ride in a vintage Squad Car, and pass by familiar spots like Floyd’s Barber Shop and the old Mayberry Courthouse. Snappy Lunch, the only eatery mentioned on the show, still serves up its famous pork chop sandwich. Walk down Main Street for local shops and a classic soda fountain. In early June, don’t miss the Mount Airy Fiddlers Convention, one of the largest old-time and bluegrass gatherings in the country. For a scenic escape, head to nearby Pilot Mountain State Park.
