I am so pleased with myself about this! I recovered this old stool with some Estonian wool we bought during our last visit. We have decided to decorate our bedroom in an Estonian theme to commemorate Ool’s heritage. We went with purple because of a beautiful day we had in the countryside there when the purple lupine were in bloom in a grove of beech trees. Every time we walk in the room we are reminded on a subconscious level, of a specific point in time that was blessed with love and sunshine. When we bought the wool I had no idea what I would use it for, I was just caught up in the beauty of the hand woven, colorful fabrics that are used to make skirts in traditional Estonian dress, similar in nature to the concept of kilts for the Scots. The colors and patterns of the stripes indicate what part of the country you are from. I love when I subconsciously gather things, somehow knowing on some level that they will all come together, as if they were always meant to be together… this fabric was absolutely meant for this stool, where I sit to do my makeup. An antique chair adorned by a fabric honoring the legacy of the strong Estonian women who wove their wool while weaving stories and traditions and lives together. It was not an easier time. All times are difficult for those that live them. It reminds me to respond to my time humbly, with courage when it’s needed and gratitude for the moments of joy that remind us what is really important in this life.
