Mapping Specialists was established in 1984 by a UW Professor and director of the cartographic lab at the UW – Madison. We are thrilled to see the importance of map projections being recognized by United Nations, in a recent vote to do away with the Mercator projection and adopt the Equal Earth projection! Although no map projection is without its distortions, the Equal Earth projection more accurately represents sizes of land masses. Maps help shape our perceptions of the world around us and we are pleased to see the UN is adopting a more equitable depiction of the world!
