🎉 We Celebrate Women’s Equality Day on August 26th! 🎉
This day honors the 19th Amendment, which in 1920 secured Women’s Right to Vote.
The idea to mark this pivotal moment came from the incredible New York Congresswoman Bella Abzug. In 1971, she championed a resolution to Congress proposing August 26 as Women’s Equality Day. Congress officially gave the green light on August 16, 1973, and just ten days later, the first celebration kicked off! 🗳️
Since then, every President from Richard Nixon onward has made it a tradition to issue a proclamation honoring this significant milestone in women's rights. 🗳️
