Today we honor Juneteenth, the day that marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Juneteenth is a day of remembrance, education, reflection, and celebration of freedom, resilience, culture, and progress. It reminds us of the importance of equality, unity, and continuing to learn from our nation’s history.
Today, as I spend time with my sweet pup and enjoy life’s simple blessings, I’m taking a moment to reflect on the freedoms we often take for granted and the people whose courage helped shape a better future.
