Congratulations to our newest Eagle Author Lilith Hutchinson! In FRAGILE YET FILLED, readers are reminded that brokenness does not disqualify them from God’s purpose. Through Scripture, testimony, and biblical truth, this book explores how Christ restores wounded lives, strengthens faith, and transforms broken vessels into powerful testimonies of His grace, healing, and redeeming love.

Before you write the book, you need to know who you’re writing it for. When writing for teens, that means understanding more than their age. What are they interested in? How do they communicate? What are they experiencing? What actually keeps their attention?

And this isn’t just true for teen books. Anytime you’re writing for an audience outside of yourself, take the time to study them first. Learn what matters to them, what they’re looking for, and what they actually want to read. The more you understand your audience, the better you can write something that truly connects with them.

Your book cover should give readers a glimpse of what they’re about to experience before they ever turn the first page. The colors, imagery, fonts, and overall design should connect to the story you’re telling and creatively communicate what your book is about.

At Destined to Publish, we walk our authors through that process. We help you think through what your cover should communicate, and when you publish with us, we design your cover with your book and your audience in mind.

Your story deserves a cover that represents it well.

Writing the book is one thing. Knowing whether you’re headed in the right direction is another. Sometimes you need help pulling the story out. Sometimes you need direction when you’ve hit a wall. And sometimes the manuscript is finished, but you need another set of experienced eyes to make sure everything actually works together.

That’s where coaching comes in.

At Destined to Publish, our coaches meet you where you are in the writing process and help you move forward with clarity and confidence. You don’t have to figure out every part of your book journey on your own.

If you have a story you’re ready to develop, finish, or strengthen, Destined to Publish is a great place to start.

Back in June, I had the opportunity to tour Black-owned bookstores throughout the Chicagoland area, and I loved getting out, connecting and experiencing these spaces firsthand. 📚 Now I’m getting ready to hit the road again for another bookstore tour this season, and this time I want your recommendations!

What bookstores should I add to my list? Black-owned, independent, neighborhood favorites, hidden gems…I want to hear them all. Drop your recommendations below! 👇🏾

New here? Allow me to reintroduce myself!

I’m Marilyn Alexander, literary mentor and founder of Destined to Publish, where I help authors navigate the journey from an idea to a published book.

As we prepare for a new year, I’m excited to begin welcoming authors who are planning to launch their books in 2027. And if that’s you, now is the time to start laying the groundwork. Whether you have an idea you’ve been sitting on, a manuscript you need help finishing, or you’re simply unsure of what comes next, you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

2027 authors, I’m ready for you! What are you working on?

Writing a children’s book may seem simple, but there are a lot of moving pieces that go into bringing that story to life.

From the words on the page and the flow of the story to the characters, emotions, illustrations, and overall experience for the young reader, every detail matters. Choosing the right illustrator is just one important part of that process.

That’s where having the right literary mentor and publisher can make a difference. At Destined to Publish, we help you navigate those details, communicate your vision, and bring the heart of your story from an idea to a finished book.

If a children’s book has been on your heart, you don’t have to figure out the process alone. Choose Destined to Publish and let’s bring your vision to life. 😊
