Your book’s cover may grab attention, but your interior design is what keeps readers turning pages.

Most authors don’t realize how important ISBN ownership really is. Your ISBN determines who is listed as the publisher of record for your book, which can impact branding, distribution, and the long-term positioning of your work.

As an independent hybrid publisher, our goal is to equip authors with both professional support and the knowledge needed to make informed publishing decisions. It is really easy to forget that our children can carry emotions too big for their words.

When my daughter, Nichelle ( ), wrote Beautiful Brown Child at 14, she was reflecting on microaggressions she experienced in elementary school, seven years prior. These were moments from first and second grade that she didn’t yet have the language to express, but she felt every bit of them. Even as early as 7 and 8, our children carry the weight of these experiences but can’t fully express them. At 14, Nichelle found her voice and gave words to the emotions she once carried in silence.

Beautiful Brown Child is an empowerment book for children… because sometimes the voice children need to hear most is the voice of another child who understands.

Nichelle is now 19, and I can look back and see just how much she was holding, and how powerful it was that she chose to put those feelings on paper.

This video is a compilation of 42 children she dedicated this book to, each one reading the very words she once needed to hear.

As parents, we try our best… but we don’t always see everything. That’s why giving your children space to write is so important. Their words may reveal more than we realize. 🖤
