This event is so much bigger than us and we always want to put the spotlight where it belongs, on the issue of homelessness in America and the power of communities to work to solve the crisis. Delray Beach, you amazed us during our first Local Legends event. With only 3 days notice members of our community raised enough money to replace tires and fund a move, including first / last / security for a new home for a homeless grandmother, mother, and 10 year old daughter living in their car in our City. They were three of the most beautiful people we have ever met and were more than deserving of all of our efforts.
As an individual that has been homeless twice in my own life I’ve had to forego the embarrassment and shame I used to feel about my own past to empower myself and participate along with our community to effect positive change within our City. Homelessness is a BIG problem, which means it's hard to imagine and take action to find solutions, so we’ve chosen to attack the issue one family and one event at a time.
We work hand in hand with the City of Delray Beach and it's representatives and we choose Civic Leaders and Standouts to volunteer to pour drinks and promote the event in a joint effort to raise awareness and funds to provide direct aid (via Delray Beach's Community Improvement Department) to families they identify in need. This one is near and dear to our hearts and this time we’re happy to be able to give you plenty of notice to find time to attend. Our guests will be behind the bar pouring a few custom cocktails (which we will provide more information on as we move forward) from 5-11PM, but the event itself will continue until we close at 2AM.
