Casino Tour Day 1 - part three. We rolled into Rising Sun, IN close to 6:00. They were starting to put up Christmas decorations and they have a Christmas Lighting Party on November 1st. The casino and hotel were very nice. They're obviously older and smaller than the surrounding casinos which explains why their volume has decreased so much. We had dinner with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager after a tour of the property. They were great and completely understand the reason Full House is going to move that location. The saturation of casinos in that one area is crazy. Three casinos within a half hour or so of each other.

Casino Tour Day 1 - part 2. Later in the day, we traveled to Lawrenceburg, IN, and were completed knocked out with this casino. It was more like Disneyland inside. Absolutely beautiful decor and just a really fun place to be. What was more impressive was the community surrounding the Hollywood Casino. Unlike the others we had visited, this was right downtown. You can see in one photo - shot from inside the casino down it's driveway, there's a big playground and houses right next to the resort. All well kept and beautiful. One thing that was obvious in our travels is that every city that had a casino was in amazing shape. The roads were great, there were river trails, community parks and their downtowns were renovated. You can really see the affect having the casino funds support and build the communities. After Lawrenceburg, we headed for Rising Sun . . . to be continued.

Casino Tour Day 1. So we decided to tour all the Indiana Casinos to see in person how having a casino affects a community. Our goal was to speak to community leaders and get a good feel for what New Haven could experience if the Rising Star Casino license transfer goes through. On Monday, we started at Caesars Southern Indiana in Elizabeth, IN. Very beautiful facility, fairly new. Walked around inside and just saw people having a good time. Socializing and talking. I'd say a majority were seniors. The area surrounding the casino was fairly remote with a two lane road servicing it.
After Caesars, we headed for Belterra in Florence, IN. Again, fairly new casino. Super clean and beautiful inside - and great landscaping outside. Pretty much the same clientele. The Caesars had a Gordon Ramsay Steakhouse and other restaurants. Overall impression of these two were that they were fresh, well ran, very clean and just a nice place to visit. See next post for Hollywood.

This is a preview of shots John McGauley took during the parade today. Summer Fest in New Haven was a huge success. Big crowds in Schnelker the last two night and the parade route was filled with happy people even after the 90 minute weather delay. It was a perfect example of why we love living in New Haven. Thanks to the staff, sponsors and volunteers for putting this on. It’s a lot of work.
