The Food Nerds

The Food Nerds Serious about food. Nerdy about design.

What if became a sit-down restaurant?
Starbucks built an empire on coffee and breakfast — but what if customers stayed for dinner?
Imagine coffee-rubbed meats. Dishes inspired by the regions behind the beans. A menu built around ritual, atmosphere, and experience.
The idea was already hiding in plain sight. It just needed the right design system to bring it to life.
Every iconic brand has another version of itself waiting to be explored.
Which brand should we reimagine next? Drop it in the comments.

We recently ate at , and noticed something super clever that we don’t see often!

They utilize their logomark throughout their menu to highlight their best dishes.
That’s not just a design element anymore, that’s a smart marketing tool.

Guiding your guests to your stand-outs without having to make them think.
That’s letting your menu do all the heavy lifting for you.

Does your menu do that?
We offer FREE 15-minut menu audits - DM “AUDIT” and we’ll get started.
No pressure. No fluff. Just nerdy (and helpful) insights.

This menu looked clean.
But it wasn’t working.

No clear hierarchy.
Too many equal choices.
Nothing guiding the customer toward what matters most.

So we reworked it.

Not by adding more…
but by designing with intention:

→ clearer structure
→ stronger visual flow
→ highlighted best-sellers
→ a brand that actually feels like the space

Same menu.
Smarter design.

Because a great menu doesn’t just list items—
it helps people decide.

If your menu isn’t guiding decisions, it’s costing you sales.

We’ll review it for free.

👉 DM us “MENU” for a 15-minute audit.

Field Study No. 3 👀

Most places only had a few items on the menu.

But even with just 3 options…

people still had to stop and think.

Because nothing clearly stood out.

No “most popular”
No “fan favorite”
No clear starting point.

And in a setting like this,
no one wants to analyze their options

They want to know what to get.

Sometimes it’s not about having fewer items…

it’s about guiding the choice.

Field Study No. 2 👀

If the line is the decision…
then what gets people into it?

At the festival, it wasn’t random.

Before anyone stepped into a line, they were already picking up signals...

What looked busy.
What sounded like something was happening.
What felt like the place to be.

That’s what pulled people in.

Which means in environments like this,
attention isn’t earned at the menu…

It’s earned before people even get there.

Field Study #1 👀

We went in thinking people decide at the menu.

But at the Texas Street Food Festival…

You often can’t even see the menu until you reach the front.

And by then?

You’ve already waited.
You’ve already committed.

The decision happened when you got in line.

Which means in environments like this,
what people see, hear, and feel before the menu matters more than the menu itself. 🧠

Most restaurants aren’t struggling with bad food…
they’re struggling with inconsistent presentation.

Your menu, online ordering, social, and Google listings should all feel like they’re coming from the same place.

Same food.
Same look.
Same expectation.

That’s what builds trust—and drives orders.

What if McDonald's went fine dining?

Not just a new logo.
Not just better visuals.

A completely different experience.

Because the most successful restaurants don’t just change how things look—
they change how things feel.

Food Nerds take:
Experience isn’t accidental. It’s designed.

The Customer Experience Files: The Atmosphere Edition 📂

Most restaurants focus on the food…
but customers remember how the place felt.

Lighting. Noise. Energy. Layout.
It all shapes the experience before the first bite.

And if something feels off—
people don’t always say it…

They just don’t come back.

People eat with their eyes first. 👀

Before a menu is read,
before a decision is made—
this is what’s doing the work.

This is what drives orders.
This is what sells it.

Your food is your marketing.

This is the standard.
