🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Today we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to gather with family, enjoy our freedoms, and share meals around the table.

As May Beef Month continues, many families will be grilling, cooking, and spending time together today. If beef is part of your Memorial Day meal, we’d love to hear what you’re making.

Jorie Chadbourne came to Humboldt County in 1988 and quickly became an important part of the local agricultural community. For many years, she served as Humboldt County’s brand inspector, earning the respect and friendship of ranchers throughout the county through her dedication, professionalism, and genuine care for others.
Jorie has been a devoted member of the Humboldt County CattleWomen since 1989. While she officially joined the board in 2023, she has spent decades volunteering and supporting the organization in countless ways. She has been a familiar face at the College of the Redwoods Environmental Fairs, where she taught students about livestock brands, the importance of branding, and even provided hands-on branding demonstrations.
Over the years, Jorie has generously volunteered her time reading in Kneeland and Ferndale schools, helping at tri-tip beef booths, working in the Red Barn, and assisting with countless other events and activities. No matter the task, Jorie is always willing to step in and help wherever she is needed.
Her commitment to the cattle industry extends beyond volunteer work. Jorie served as President of the Humboldt Del Norte Cattlemen’s Association from 2007–2008, continuing her long tradition of leadership and service to the ranching community.
Affectionately known as the “Sunshine Lady,” Jorie has a special gift for making people feel valued and cared for. Whether through thoughtful cards and notes or simply greeting others with her warm smile, she spreads kindness everywhere she goes.
Known for always having a smile on her face, Jorie is a beloved member of every group she is part of. Her dedication, generosity, friendship, and unwavering support of the cattle industry make her truly deserving of being named the 2026 Humboldt County CattleWoman of the Year.
