Using some technology to help the fire in my Dakota fire hole. The fan may not be needed, but I wanted some positive air flow into the fire chamber due to some damp wood.

Lessons learned over my years of serious camping all involve making the best choices, not of major decisions, but of the all-important small stuff.

Lines, ropes - cordage as the pros term it - are great. They're indispensable. But relying on cordage to provide all of the support is a big mistake.

I continue to like my layout. The overlapping tarps, one bisected by a N-S ridgeline, with the other diagonally imposed from the ridge center of the first tarp.

Before I buried a centerpole, resistance to wind and pooling have multiple fail points. Now, the pole is buried a foot deep in compacted earth around the pole. The original ridgeline is attached to the pole in the center and on opposite sides.

I attached a larger mosquito net around my hammock. Should be a good test tonight.

My newest camping area sits on what was once a garden during my childhood. Trees and a few flowering plants remain as do several cement blocks Dad placed for walkways.

With rain imminent, I used these leftover blocks to cover the two holes of the Dakota fire hole.

Building a Dakota fire hole. Roots on the northest side, (left), made a straightforward design a minor pain in the ass. That said, it's a natural for the tarp site.

Had a good, productive day. Mom has been in a good mood all day.
I'm now solo under the center tarp. This afternoon, I lifted that same tarp slowly by one side and emptied about 30 gallons of water. After that, it was a matter of tightening a few stake lines.

My camp has extended by one small, inexpensive, pup-tent.
My main reason for this is so I can camp with a cat or two in an enclosed shelter.

I once again modified my tarp shelter, this time to provide more room under the plough point setup.

Using my snowshoe poles, I drew out the sides by running lines from the tie-down loops, through the strap on each pole, then down to the tent peg holding the tarp's side.

I plan on camping there this evening, and so I expect to have some more room to the sides.
