No license? No prob. Free fishing days are back 🎣

Maryland residents and visitors can fish without a license on June 6, June 13, and July 4, 2026.

That means no standard fishing license, trout stamp, or registration required on those dates — but all regular fishing rules still apply.

📍 Frederick County spot to try: Gambrill State Park 8602 Gambrill Park Rd., Frederick, MD

The Rock Run area has a small fishing pond near the campgrounds with largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish.

⏰ Park hours: 8 a.m. to sunset
💵 Park entry: $3/vehicle for Maryland residents, $5/vehicle for out-of-state visitors

Looking for more places to fish in Maryland? Check the Maryland DNR () website for additional fishing locations and resources statewide.

Save this for your summer bucket list and send it to someone who needs a free family outing. 🎣

Back in February, we let you know the Staples at 5557 Urbana Pike in Frederick was scheduled to close on March 6, according to a notice posted at the storefront.

At the time, some residents speculated the Burlington on W. Patrick Street could eventually relocate to the space, though no plans had been confirmed.

Now, new signage on the former Staples building reads “Coming Soon! Burlington,” signaling the retailer is headed to the Urbana Pike location.

An opening date has not yet been announced.

What do you think of Burlington coming to the former Staples space ⁉️

Red Robin at Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick is set to close on Sunday, May 24, after nearly 15 years in business.

The restaurant, located at 5582 Spectrum Drive, opened on May 30, 2011. Employees were reportedly informed this past Saturday that the location would be closing. Gitt cards are expected to remain valid at the Red Robin location in Germantown, Montgomery County.

The closure comes after Red Robin announced in late 2024 that it planned to shutter about 70 underperforming restaurants as part of its cost-cutting "North Star" plan, which focuses on improving profitability and bringing more guests back into its restaurants.

Red Robin is a casual dining chain best known for its gourmet burgers, bottomless seasoned steak fries, family-friendly atmosphere, retro Americana-style decor, "Red Robin... Yum!" slogan, and popular birthday rewards program.

At this time, it is not yet known what business, if any, could eventually take over the space. Additional details will be provided as they become available.

Are you sad to see Red Robin close !?

A Frederick County couple is $50k richer after purchasing a winning scratch-off at the Exxon station on Ballenger Creek Pike in Frederick, MD.

Here’s the full story via Maryland Lottery:

“Susan and David Grinder are Lottery fans, pure and simple. The two make time each week to pick out scratch-offs and play them together, sharing the highs and lows that come with games of chance. It was one of those highs that brought them to Lottery headquarters this week to claim a $50,000 prize.

When their designated Lottery time was interrupted on a recent weekend by an unavoidable errand, David picked up a few tickets he could play while on the road, intending to call home to share the results. Thanks to a $5 Winning Streak game that was among those he chose, that call ended up being a lot more exciting than he expected.

“I couldn’t figure out what was going on at first, he sounded like he was freaking out,” Susan said March 9 when the two claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters. Part of the problem, David reported, was that his hands were shaking so much that he had trouble holding both his phone and the $50,000 top-prize-winning ticket. His purchase from the Exxon station at 5870 Ballenger Creek Pike in Frederick had him a bit rattled.

“I checked the ticket several times to be sure,” he said. “Then I asked the cashier to check it. She gave me a big hug. The whole experience was mind-blowing.”

The husband and wife from the Frederick community Point of Rocks said home improvement projects will be their focus when deciding how to enjoy their winnings.

“We’ve been giddy ever since Saturday,” Susan said. “I just can’t get over that his happened to us.”

Winning Streak debuted in early February with seven $50,000 top prize tickets in the mix. This Frederick County win is the first top prize to be claimed. Ballenger Creek Pike Exxon receives a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top prize winner. Along with the six remaining top prizes, 10 second-tier prizes of $5,000 each are still in circulation.”
