Interested in additional resources for your climate communication effort? Back in March we presented our findings working with Land Trust Alliance and Open Space Institute.

River Network recording another session for your all to enjoy!

Presentation link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Most surveys find that a substantial minority of the population remain unconvinced or even hostile to the reality of climate change. The lack of public consensus presents a challenge to conservation organizations that strive for a broader impact. Should they include climate change information in their public messages? If so, how?

The Land Trust Alliance and the Open Space Institute engaged Water Words That Work to determine how land trusts can effectively integrate climate change messaging into their outreach. Watch the YouTube video to learn the findings of their research and how they can be implemented.

Eric Eckl, Principal, Water Words That Work

Did you miss our presentation on working with landowners to adopt conservation practices and easements back in April? Our friends at River Network recorded and posted the presentation on their YouTube page.

YouTube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifdXB_33NIo

Description:
Learn the tricks of the trade from the most successful conservation field experts. Where do they excel and set themselves apart from the rest? To answer that question, presenters surveyed and interviewed more than 100 ace field staff working on voluntary conservation measures in four states. Hear about their findings and receive tips to help you reach more forest and farm landowners more successfully.

The Land Trust Alliance engaged Water Words That Work to discover answers as to how conservation groups can improve their sales pitch and close voluntary land management activities--like improved practices for cleaner water, conservation easements, etc.--more effectively. This presentation targets entry and mid-level staff. Attend our April 8th webinar to learn the findings from their research and how land trusts are implementing it.

Panelists:
Eric Eckl, Water Words That Work
Jennifer Miller Herzog, Land Trust Alliance

Join US for a Changing the Subject presentation hosted by River Network and copresenting with Land Trust Alliance

Date: Tuesday, March 3, 2020
Time: 2:00pm Eastern
Registration link: https://www.rivernetwork.org/events/changing-the-subject/

We're partnering with River Network to present our research and findings from a climate communications project for Land Trust Alliance.

Description below:
Among scientists, it is settled science that climate change is occurring, but among the public, it is a different story. Most surveys find that a substantial minority of the population, including many rural landowners, remain unconvinced or even hostile to the concept. And even when a landowner or donor does accept that climate change is occurring, that still may not be a compelling reason for them to support the work of the local nonprofit.

The lack of public consensus presents a challenge to conservation organizations as they explain their mission and try to involve the community in the work. Should they include climate change information in their public messages, and if so, how?
