Look Who I Met in Las Vegas!
Over the years, the DPR Group staff and I have gone to a variety of trade shows on behalf of our high-tech B2B clients. We typically get the pre-registered press list and invite editors and influencers to come by our client’s booth for interviews. This gets our clients and their products featured in high profile publications, websites and podcasts.
In October, I attended the NACS Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center. While there, I had the rare opportunity to briefly meet former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Iron Mike Tyson, who was doing a press event leading up to his Nov. 15th fight vs. influencer turned boxer – Jake Paul.
I told Mike that I almost met him back in 2003, when we both, by chance, were at the same beach in Maui, Hawaii. Mike said, “Well fella, you met me now. Let’s get a good photo.”
I couldn’t help but notice the solidness and weight of Mike’s arm as he put his left arm on my shoulder for the photo. I was thinking, “Man, I really would NOT want to get hit by this guy!”
After a guy in the front row used my 35 MM digital camera to get some photos, the event director tried to rush me off stating that Mr. Tyson was in training and had to go to dinner soon. Mike interrupted him and said, ”Hold on. I want to make sure that my man got a good photo.”
Mike asked the guy in the front row to hand us my camera. I clicked the view button, and we saw that I had gotten a couple of good shots. At that point, I shook Mike’s hand and wished him well in his upcoming fight.
Like many people all over the world, I’ll be watching the fight tomorrow night…and rooting for Iron Mike to win!
