State officials say streamflows, soil moisture and groundwater levels remain well below normal, with Virginia receiving about 7.5 inches less precipitation than average since October.

SCAM ALERT - STAFFORD DEPUTIES IMPERSONATION SCAM 🚨

Citizens of Stafford County have been reporting an increase in fraudulent telephone scams appearing to be from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. In these scams, the caller will claim to be a deputy from the Sheriff’s Office and state that the victim has a warrant out for their arrest. The caller is attempting to inflict fear on the victim and will provide information to avoid an arrest, typically through payment. The payment may come in the form of gift cards, a wire transfer of money or Bitcoin.

Remember:

* If you receive a call from somebody and are unsure if it is a scam, HANG UP and call 540-658-4400 to speak with a confirmed deputy

* The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office and any law enforcement agency will NEVER contact you to pay a fine to avoid arrest.

* Anytime an individual requests payment through gift cards, wire transfer or Bitcoin, it is a likely indicator of a SCAM. No law enforcement agency will request payment of any kind through these methods.

* SHARE this information with others and help prevent the next scam from happening to a member of our community.
