TOTAL MOBILE DISCONNECT - I discovered how that little computer in the palm of our hands can have a tremendous impact, good and bad, on our lives.
Note To Self: Do not place iPhone in swimsuit pocket ... ever again!
You guessed it ... I went swimming with my iPhone over the weekend at Lake Millerton. The 'Bag of Rice' overnight trick did not work.
Sunday morning, using trish's cell phone, I was searching for iPhone repair shops and found the folks at CELLFIX at the South West corner of Blackstone & Herndon and OPEN! By the end of the day ... no fix. Instructed to return on Monday.
Because my Sunday was not normal, my Monday was not going to be a normal Monday. Returned the boat to storage. Gassed up SUV and topped off coolant. Stopped in to Cell Fix to learn 'not fixed' ... they need more time. So I head home and get to work answering emails and doing what I could without my iPhone. Finally, I get the call ... Cell Fix says, sorry, NO FIX. I arrived to pick up my DOA phone expecting a fat repair 'attempt' bill ... but to my surprise and to their credit, there was no charge.
I'm truly stunned. CELL FIX charges $0 for diagnostics. Apparently I missed that in the fine print. Five Stars coming shortly. My next stop, the AT&T store. Name on the list. 45 minutes later I'm told that I can file an insurance claim (I'm insured for swimming with my iPhone? who knew?) or I can purchase a replacement & upgrade to an iPhone 15 Max Pro, from my iPhone 11 Max Pro. When I asked the difference, the AT&T rep said $1400 and no 2-day wait for delivery of an iPhone. Total Mobile Disconnect for 2 more days to save $1400. SOLD! Now I wait.
I get back to my home office and see I have very little time left in the business day so I opt to take my Van for an overdue inspection. I check the inspection station hours and see I have just enough time to drop off the Van and Uber back. Made it just in time. Now to call an uber. Uh oh. no phone. OMG! Really? I stand there for a moment and think ... and that's when Mac's Tire Pros came to my rescue. Rod McKinney listened to my 'would you believe ...' story and was kind enough to call me an Uber so I didn't have to hoof it back home. Sure is nice to have good friends ... PayPal repay and Beer samples coming soon.
Uber delivers me to my home and I finish out the business day of emails and scheduling meetings.
I suppose I needed the distractions of the day ... as it's been anything but a normal weekend or a normal Monday.
Special Note: My sincerest condolences to the entire Jones family. We all lost a very special woman in our lives over the weekend. Though I'm not related, and I hadn't known her for very long, she was like a sister-in-law that played a significant role in Trish's survival in 2021 from her covid/pneumonia hospitalization. She will surely be missed, never to be forgotten.
RIP Nancy.
Let's take a moment to appreciate those around us, Family & Friends, as we truly never know what day will be our last.
