The wait is over—this weekend kicks off DeSoto State Park's Campfire Talk Series!

Join us for an exciting season of educational and entertaining programs held under the stars at DeSoto State Park. From June through October, many Friday and Saturday evenings come alive with fascinating stories, wildlife discoveries, and outdoor adventures around our large campfire ring in the improved campground.

Throughout the season, you'll have opportunities to learn about some of the park's most interesting subjects, including snakes, frogs, butterflies, birds, owls, paleontology, local history, Hernando de Soto's journey through the Southeast, and much more.

Campfire Talks are open to all ages and free for all to attend. Bring a chair, gather around the fire, and experience the wonders of nature and history in one of Alabama's most beautiful parks.

A legendary seafood stop, Wintzell’s Oyster House in Alabama is the kind of place you hear about and then can’t believe you waited this long to try. You walk in to that old-school, no-frills vibe and the smell of buttery seafood hits you before you even grab a seat. You go straight for the oysters—raw, fried, or baked—then add a bowl of gumbo, a hot shrimp po’boy, or a thick platter of fried shrimp and fish that shows up crispy and filling. You round it out with hushpuppies, slaw, and a cold sweet tea that just fits. Service is quick, prices feel fair, and the staff stays friendly even when it’s busy.
