Fill your heart with magic light; I give the gift of fairy sight!
I’m obsessed with this session! And there’s more still to come! Fun fact, Marian is a fantasy photographer herself, and this session was actually our first time meeting! She is such a fantastic person with an incredible eye, and getting to spend time together talking photography, creative ideas, and all the things we want to create someday made this session even more special.

And then there’s the fact that we got to photograph CRYSTA from FernGully. A character whose entire heart is wrapped up in protecting and loving the world around her. It was such a dreamy concept to bring to life, and this whole session felt like stepping into a little piece of that world. 🌱✨

We all, everyone one of us, carry a star inside our chests... In order to defeat the darkness and dark souls, you must keep the star inside your chest burning brightly at all times.
This was a SPECIAL session for me. I had the privilege of working with Sarah Spaceman Cosplay, and I will be completely honest... I was nervous. Anxious. Excited. All of the feelings. 😂

When someone whose work you admire chooses YOU to be their photographer, there is definitely that little voice in your head going, okay Jackie... don't screw this up! 😂 But once we started shooting, all of that nervous energy turned into pure excitement.

And getting to photograph Princess Serenity made the whole thing even more special. She is such an iconic character, but there is something particularly beautiful about Serenity beyond the princess aesthetic. She carries this incredible sense of gentleness, hope, love, and quiet strength. She isn't powerful because she is the loudest person in the room. Her heart is the thing that makes her powerful.

That idea of carrying a light inside yourself felt like such a perfect theme to photograph. Soft, dreamy, romantic, but with that little spark of something much bigger underneath it all. ✨🌙

I am incredibly grateful Sarah trusted me with this session, and I am still smiling about it.

Hold me, like you did by the lake on Naboo; so long ago when there was nothing but our love
I first photographed Marisa at Metrocon in 2025, and guess what she was wearing then? This exact Padmé lake dress! Getting to see the side-by-side glow-up from Year One to Year Two was SO much fun. It is always wild to look back at an older session and see how much can change in a year, both for the cosplayer and behind the camera. 📸✨

For these photos we used backdrops supplied by the incredibly talented Back Lot Sets, and the pillars, soft clouds, and gorgeous lighting were absolutely perfect for this look. We wanted something emotional and almost angelic for Padmé, while also keeping her very much alive because... well... RIP Padmé. 😭

There was something really beautiful about photographing this version of her. Padmé has so much softness and strength wrapped up in the same character, and this dress carries so much emotional weight because of everything happening around her and Anakin during this part of the story.

This was such a gorgeous session, and I am so glad we got to photograph this set again one year later. 💙

LEAVE PLAYCARE, OR I'M COMING FOR YOU
This session was completely out of my element, but I was SO excited to see what would come from it. The garage space at the convention was basically the only location that made sense for the darker, spooky atmosphere we needed, and boy did we make it work.

The photos turned out awesome. Then I sat down to edit them and promptly blacked out? What happened to me? Where did I go? Was I emotionally okay?! 😂

Using pieces of CatNap throughout some of the images was certainly a decision, but choosing the Nightmare version to haunt the background of the first photo? TERRIFYING. Every time I look at it I’m just like, yep... this is what nightmares look like. 😳

I genuinely have no idea what part of my brain took over while creating these, but whatever happened, it worked. 😂 I think this is the best session Kendy and I have done together TO DATE, and getting to keep pushing each other creatively like this is one of my favorite parts of working together.

Pitiful creature of darkness, what kind of life have you known? God give me courage to show you, you are not alone
I LOVE working with Robin. She has an energy about her that is ridiculously contagious, and from the moment she showed up, we were all laughter. 😂

But here is your friendly reminder from your local cosplay photographer: sometimes cosplays break. Sometimes we don't finish them. Sometimes we forget a very important piece at home or in the hotel room. Sometimes you spend months planning a look and then your cosplay decides to humble you five minutes before photos.

It happens!

And naturally, Robin was not thrilled about missing an important part of her cosplay. But from my perspective? I genuinely couldn't even tell something was missing once we started working.

After a few deep breaths, we were WORKING. No. COOKING. 😂

We just kicked the negative energy to the curb, said screw it, and got to work. And I don't think she even knew about the missing piece anymore by the time we were well into the session because she was beaming, goofing off, and having an absolute blast.

I LOVE that.

Not every session goes perfectly. Not every costume behaves. Not every little detail works out the way we imagined. But we can still make something beautiful. We can still laugh. We can still have fun.

Sometimes you just have to say screw it, put on your best Christine energy, and COOK. 🎭✨

Pitiful creature of darkness, what kind of life have you known? God give me courage to show you, you are not alone
Sometimes the best photos happen when you aren't looking for them.

I was waiting to use the backdrops in Cosplay Central at Metrocon when I spotted this beautiful Christine Daaé setting herself up to use a different backdrop. I had to stop and ask if I could take a few photos them.

Five minutes. That's it.

I don't often get the opportunity to stop and photograph people in the halls during a convention, so this was a real treat. But sometimes you see a cosplay and immediately know you have to create something with it.

And somehow, in those few minutes, we created some of my favorite photos from Metrocon. ✨

I had such a fun time with Rosie during her Lysandra session! We have fantasy, we had gorgeous sunlight, we had… Snow Leopards? 😆 nooooo though what a session that would have been!

After much deliberation between the right side of my brain and the left side of my brain the left side gave in and we added leopards so the photo! Is it perfect? No! Am I really happy with something I don’t traditionally add to a photo? Hell yes!

This pose with the pillars were screaming to have snow leopards in it and I think it adds a lot to both the character and who she is as well as the photo itself

“The fighting, the clawing, the loneliness, the FU***NG loneliness… All of it so I could rot, because the person I trusted the most gave me away to the devil!”

Karlach is one of those characters that immediately stands out, not just because of her strength, but because of her warmth and personality. She is fierce, resilient, and still incredibly full of heart despite everything she has endured.

This session was all about capturing that balance between power and personality, fire and humanity. Seeing her come to life through cosplay made the entire shoot feel dynamic from start to finish.

There is something really special about characters like Karlach. They remind you that even after everything, you can still choose to move forward with fire in your chest.

Maybe I want someone to remember me, even only a little. Living means someone knows you and remembers you.
Frieren and Himmel have one of those stories that manages to be both beautiful and absolutely heartbreaking. Their time together was brief for Frieren, but the impact Himmel left on her lasted far beyond their years together.

For this session, my cosplayers decided to lean fully into the side of the fandom that has spent years wondering what might have been between these two. The series gives us those tiny little moments, and sometimes that is all a fandom needs to run with an idea. 😂 So we did exactly that.

Bok Tower was the perfect setting for them. There was something about the gardens, the quiet, and the timeless feeling of the location that fit their story beautifully. It felt like stepping into one of those memories Frieren might carry with her long after everyone else is gone. 💙

I’m going to become the best Umamusume in Japan! 🐴✨
Special Week was a new kind of character for me, but that’s one of the things I love about cosplay photography. My cosplayers are constantly introducing me to characters and worlds I might never have discovered on my own!

This was another ridiculously fun session with Bunny. They always bring me the cutest and most playful cosplays, and they are SO good at movement in front of the camera. When someone already knows how to move, play with their character, and just have fun, it lets me step back from giving constant posing direction and focus more on finding the right angles and capturing the moment.

And honestly? That can be such a nice change for my photographer brain. 😂💕
