Did you know there's a tax credit specifically for making your business more accessible?

The IRS Disabled Access Credit (Section 44) lets qualifying small businesses claim 50% of eligible accessibility expenses, up to $5,000 per year.

You qualify if your business earned $1 million or less OR had 30 or fewer full-time employees. And yes, it covers website accessibility improvements like adding alt text, improving keyboard navigation, and screen reader support.

There's also a separate deduction (Section 190) of up to $15,000 a year for businesses of any size.

I cover all of this in my free Website Accessibility QuickStart workshop, along with the free tools you can use to find issues and the quick fixes that make the biggest difference. Link to get it in the comments!

If you've installed one of those accessibility overlay widgets on your website (the little icon in the corner that promises to make your site accessible), I need you to hear this:

They don't actually fix your website.

They add a layer on top of your site, but the underlying code issues remain. They can even interfere with screen readers and make things worse for the people they're supposed to help. And they've been cited in ADA lawsuits, so they might not protect you legally either.

Major disability advocacy organizations have spoken out against them for these exact reasons.

Real accessibility means fixing your actual website, not adding a band-aid on top. And it's more doable than you think.

In my free workshop, I show you what actually works: free tools to find issues, simple fixes you can make yourself, and a checklist to keep you on track. Get it at the link in the comments.

There's a lot of overlap between accessibility best practices and SEO best practices.

Things like adding alt text to your images, using proper heading structure, and making sure your site works on mobile? Those help people with disabilities use your site AND they help search engines understand your content.

So when you fix accessibility issues, you're also giving your SEO a boost. Two wins from the same work.

In my free Website Accessibility QuickStart workshop, I walk you through the fixes that help both your visitors and your search rankings. No tech jargon, no overwhelm. Just clear, practical steps. Link in comments.

1 in 4 adults in the U.S. has some form of disability.

If your website isn't accessible, you could be turning away 25% of your potential clients without even knowing it.

And here's the thing most small business owners don't realize: the majority of ADA website lawsuits target businesses with revenue under $20 million. This isn't just a big-company problem.

The good news? Most accessibility issues are totally fixable, and you don't need to be a developer to make a real difference.

I put together a free workshop that walks you through everything: what to check, which free tools to use, and the quick fixes that have the biggest impact. Link in the comments

If you've been following along this week, you've already tackled your Google Business Profile, location keywords, reviews, and citations. That's more than most business owners do all year.

Today's tip is the long game, and it's a powerful one: creating content that shows off your local expertise.

Here's the thing. National competitors can write generic content about your industry all day long. But they can't write about your community, your customers, or what it's like to do business in your area. That's your advantage, and search engines reward it.

My free Local SEO Quickstart Checklist walks you through getting started with local content. Link in the comments!

Today, we're talking about the importance of citations for local SEO.

"Citations" sounds fancy, but it's really just this: getting your business name, address, and phone number listed on other websites. Think of them as votes of confidence that tell Google your business is real and established in your community.

There are a handful of directories every local business should be listed in, and most are free. The key is knowing which ones matter and making sure your information is consistent across all of them.

Some SEO experts say citations are less important for local SEO these days, but since most AI tools can't access Google Business Profiles, I think they are critical! If you want to be recommended to people in your area by ChatGPT and Claude, make sure your business shows up on websites they can see, like Yelp.

The free Local SEO Quickstart Checklist has the full list and walks you through it. Link in the comments!

Did you know that reviews are a ranking factor for local search? Most people check them before choosing a local business. If you don't have recent reviews, you're losing potential customers to competitors who do.

I know asking for reviews can feel awkward. But it doesn't have to be pushy or weird. You just need a simple system, and once it's set up, it basically runs itself.

My free Local SEO Quickstart Checklist walks you through setting up that system in a few easy steps. Link in the comments!

Here's something I see all the time with local businesses: a solid website with great content, but barely any mention of where they're actually located.

If your website doesn't clearly say where you are, search engines can't connect you with those "near me" searches. And those are the people who are ready to visit or book today.

The fix takes about 20 minutes, and it's one of those things that makes you wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

My free Local SEO Quickstart Checklist tells you exactly which pages to check and where to add your location. Link in the comments!

This week I'm sharing 5 simple local SEO tweaks that can help your business show up when nearby customers are searching for what you offer. Let's start with the big one.

When someone searches for a local business like yours, Google shows a map with nearby options right at the top of the results. That's called the local pack, and your Google Business Profile is what gets you into it.

If your profile isn't set up, isn't complete, or hasn't been updated in a while, you're missing out on the people who are actively looking for you right now.

The good news? It's free, and you can get the basics done in about 30 minutes.

Want to know exactly what to do? I put together a free Local SEO Quickstart Checklist that walks you through this and 4 more quick wins, step by step. Grab it in the comments!
