I’ve noticed that the more content I consume, the less creative I actually feel.

Suddenly the idea I had is silly, unimpactful or irrelevant. 

It’s so easy to convince myself I’m scrolling for “inspiration,” saving trending audios and seeing what everyone else is posting. But at some point, consuming more content just makes it harder to hear my own ideas.

Some of my best ideas come when I’m driving, working out, reading, making dinner or doing literally anything besides staring at my phone.

Give your brain a little room to be bored. To think. To notice things.

Your best content idea probably isn’t hiding in another hour of scrolling. 💭

Recording a talking video can feel terrifying, I understand that. (HELLO, you never see me on here 🫣)

Luckily, there are a million ways to show up on social media without talking straight to a camera.

Voiceovers, b-roll with text, faceless content, carousels, etc.

However, talking videos DO work. They capture attention, communicate a message and help your audience connect with you. And that is truly valuable when you want to see results.

I take so much pride in helping my clients feel comfortable and confident on camera, no matter where they’re starting. We make it fun, candid and casual so they can actually be themselves. Not some perfect, polished version of themselves. That’s what editing is for (aka my job!). 

We rarely even follow a script. We rehearse what needs to be communicated, then let the ideas flow. More often than not, we end up with a more heartfelt, personal monologue than anything we could’ve planned.

Pro tip: You have about 3 seconds to capture someone’s attention. If you focus on anything, write a jaw-dropping hook. ✨The rest of your brilliance will follow.

Font choice matters a little more than you think...

These are my top 5 fonts in Instagram’s video editing app, Edits. They’re classic, simple, easy to read and work with almost any type of content. 99% of the time, I’m choosing one of these for my clients.

My biggest tip? Pick one or two and stick with them across all of your Reels.

Using the same fonts consistently helps your content feel cohesive and recognizable. 

You definitely don’t need to pick a new font for every video. Keep it easy and consistent! 🤎

Doom scrolling will not help your creativity. In fact, I find it’s one of the least helpful things you can do for your social media.

Your best ideas usually come in the moments of boredom, reflection and quiet. When you give your brain enough space to actually think.

Too much consumption and mental stimulation can quickly turn into comparison, imposter syndrome and second-guessing everything you create.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your content is consume less and create more.

A few things that make an instant difference:

Clean your lens!! 
Use natural light, it’s your best friend (face the window)
Turn off Portrait mode, like always 
Avoid harsh overhead lighting (turn off lights)
Lower the exposure slightly for a cleaner look
Use the grid to help with composition
Play with 2x and 0.5x zoom 
Take WAY more photos than you think you need
