SSA impersonation scams are getting more personal, and more convincing, than ever. Scammers now use your leaked personal data (like your name, partial SSN, or benefits info) to mimic official Social Security Administration messages, emails, and calls.

Here’s what’s happening:
1️⃣ Scammers use info from past data breaches to make fake SSA messages look real, sometimes even spoofing caller IDs or copying official email formats.
2️⃣ They claim there’s a problem with your Social Security number or benefits, then ask for personal info or payment to “fix” it.
3️⃣ Once they have your details, they can open accounts, access your money, or even redirect your benefits.

What to do:
✅ Never respond to unexpected messages claiming to be from the SSA.
✅ Don’t click links or call numbers in those messages.
✅ Always verify directly at SSA.gov or by using a verified phone number.
✅ If you’ve shared info, report it to the SSA Office of Inspector General (oig.ssa.gov/report) and IdentityTheft.gov, and place a fraud alert or credit freeze with the credit bureaus.

🔒Never share personal info or send money in response to unsolicited SSA messages. always verify through official channels.
