🚨Meta is changing the way businesses can share external links on Facebook, and it’s a development marketers and businesses should be watching.
Meta has recently begun rolling out a new limitation for some pages and professional accounts. Certain accounts may be limited to two organic Facebook posts containing external links per month unless they subscribe to Meta One, Meta’s new paid subscription service.
The rollout is gradual and account-specific, so not every Page is seeing this change yet.
For businesses that regularly use Facebook to drive traffic to their website, booking engine, blog, events, promotions, or other external content, this could have a significant impact on organic social strategy.
While Meta has not explicitly stated that the change is intended to keep users from leaving Facebook, the timing and structure of the rollout are notable. Meta is limiting certain organic link-posting capabilities while simultaneously offering increased link-posting access through a paid subscription.
For businesses, this is another reminder of the importance of having a diversified digital marketing strategy.
Organic social remains valuable for building awareness, engagement, and community. But when driving traffic and conversions is the goal, paid social, email marketing, SEO, and other channels can provide additional ways to reach audiences without relying entirely on organic link posts.
At Mannix Marketing, we’re actively monitoring this rollout across the Pages we manage, including LakeGeorge.com, Saratoga.com, and our other regional platforms. We’re also testing potential workarounds and alternative strategies as Meta continues to roll out the change.
For now, businesses do not need to take action unless Meta specifically notifies their account that the limitation has been applied.
As more information becomes available, we’ll continue sharing what we’re seeing and what it could mean for businesses using Facebook as part of their marketing strategy.
Have you started seeing Meta One or the new link-posting limits on any of the Pages you manage?
