We did a 2 part evening workshop with the crew at Thoughtform last week. First we hosted a small group at our studio to design and compose a type and ad cut lockup. The designers learned the slowness of our process and all it takes to make small adjustments!

Then we took our traveling setup to their office for a print and stamp workshop. It’s always fun to see the creativity and interesting layering that folks come up with when they can free form stamp!

We’ll be wrapping up back at the studio by doing a larger run of their design in the near future for their seasonal mailer.

We’re loving the way these posters are coming out for Erik Von Bartholomaus upcoming show at Bottom Feeder Books

The image in the middle is showing the first of two colors and is originally done in colored pencil. I think we were able to keep a lot of the texture of it in this print and it looks great setting next to Goudy too. One more color to go. tattooreadymade

Our process is always a little bit different. When we hand set type it’s nice to start with a sketch, then pick type and build a full scale mock up, then lockup and make a proof and then go on to make edits and fix typos. It’s a longer process but a fun and valuable one to reach a good end product. We’re working on this poster with tattooreadymade for Erik Von Bartholomaus upcoming show at Bottom Feeder Books

Once the type is set properly we’ll get to making the relief plates for printing Erik’s 2 color work.

Ten amazing bands, art, tintypes, tacos, and great craft b**r… the team at Big Rail Brewing & Concert Venue sure knows how to host an event.

We enjoyed our first Ghost Town Music Festival at this one of a kind venue and look forward to the next.

Just completed this project with tattooreadymade here in the northside of Pittsburgh. I love how they came out...lots of great detail and good printing static in the old wood type. It was great to collaborate with J. on the design of it as well. Hitting the image just right took a bit of tinkering but the end result shows better than I hoped. All handset wood and metal type with the engraved image block.
